What a brutal trade by Montreal - thanks for making the central even tougher :amazed:

What did PK do to cause the GM to do this? Did he run over Bergevin's dog or something?

This trade is just pants on head ********. Canadiens get a 30 years old #1 defensemen signed until he is 40! Predators get a 26 year old #1 defenseman signed until he is 33. :dunce:

Before the GM is fired, the Wild offer Folin or Reilly for Galchenyuk

I would love Weber on my team but not for PK Subban. Subban is better now, much better player longterm. This trade is just awful for Habs and its pretty obvious Bergevin just didnt want him anymore. Still dont understand why they didnt deal him to Edm/why Edm didnt give up enough. Drai+4th+Nurse would be a much better return imo.
Thats possibly an elite center(already damn good top 6), highly rated prospect in Pulujarvi and Nurse. Just dont see how Weber longterm is better than that.

Honestly, bergevin really is hands down the worst GM in the league in my books. There's not one GM I'd prefer not to have over him.

And that goes for the Canadiens owner too, Molson.

He looks like a pylon and sadly enough for him - Is a pylon.

Edit: wait I ... Actually need to add their coach as the last I would ever take on my team too.

Man oh man is that ever sad.

If they don't have to, why would they ? It would be crazy to handcuff yourself like that if it's not necessary (not trying to bash you, and thanks for reporting, just pointing out that it shouldn't come as a surprise).

I also think it's a smart deal. It keeps their options open.

Such a dumb move. PK is the type of talent that you make work. I'm sure something was going on behind the scenes to some degree, but the spin coming out of Montreal is ridiculous.

Still can't believe this happened. Coming from a Leafs fan, I'm actually mad FOR Habs fans. I would be losing my mind if my team traded PK for anything less than an out of this world package, let alone an aging Weber.

Not saying Weber is bad, because we all know he's elite in every sense of the word... but PK is muuuuuuch better long term. Terrible trade.

PREDICTION:

Montreal has a relatively healthy season. They make the playoffs, 5th in the East but lose in the first round. Media asks Bergevin if he still stands by the Subban-Weber trade and he responds with something along the lines of "Hey, we're a better team than we were last year." Because he thinks the fans and media are stupid.

Why is there only talk about the poor Habs and Subban? What about Webber,he was the Preds "C" and suddenly traded.Any input from someone that may be aware of his circumstances?

Either that or they miss the postseason by a point and get the 14th draft pick and a lot of firings ;)

If the firings don't happen sooner...

Really don't like this trade for Montreal. But will be interesting to see how each team spins it

If he's riding the bus in the "A", Montreal still has about $6.5M of cap hit on their books (I believe they only receive "relief" of the league minimum salary +$425K).

The Preds must REALLY beleive that Weber is going to play out his contract, because the cap recovery hits are MAMMOTH given how front loaded the contract was, and with trading him they don't get any "credit" for the years where the cash paid is less than the cap hit. Will be really interesting to see how that shakes out long term.

Weber retiring is so far into the future that I doubt they care. It'll be in 6-7 years that he considers retiring while still under contract. It'll be an issue when it happens, but this is the type of trade they couldn't pass up.

When I first heard about the trade, I too thought it was horrible for the Habs. But if the reports about the team hating PK and his off-ice issues are true, then it seems like the GM had no choice but to trade him and Weber is not a bad option (unless they could have gotten Barrie or Trouba). He can't trade the rest of the team and it seems like there was a big leadership problem on the Habs when they crashed and burned with Price down. I know Price is probably the best goalie in the league, but they could have floated above water at least not tanked the way they did.

Even after a night of sleep I still can't get over this trade. It would be like trading a young Lindros for Forsberg. Nobody would've done that. :sarcasm:

He was traded in a move that is almost unanimously agreed to be in Nashville's favour. Odds are, there were zero issues but getting Subban at 27 for Weber at 31 was a deal Nashville couldn't pass up.

Nashville was offered a player with a better contract who was nearly 4 years younger who at the very least they probably felt was comparable or maybe even better than Weber.
