I think Chia's main plan here was getting a rental, but also setting up Pouliot as the expansion draft target.

If LV takes Pouliot(which I think they have to seriously consider since it'd be him or some AHL players), it frees up $5.5M next season and the season after with Pouliot and Davidson's salaries off the books.

Pouliot sucks and costs a lot of money, If I was Vegas I'd make the oilers pay me something to take him.

Why was he useless in the bottom 6? Many people are saying he's good there.

Depends what type of third line you want. We did not have the elements that meshed well with him on a third line. There is a reason even MT eventually benched him.

Oilers probably run Pouliot and Kassian/Cagguila on the third line. So a good amount of skill

I'd like a third line that can pot a goal or two each week and doesn't get hemmed in their zone non-stop.

I think playing DD with Lucic and Eberle could be intriguing but I'm beyond happy with this from a Habs perspective...

If this had been proposed before it happened, Oilers fans would have eaten it alive

You're one injury away from having Gryba playing in your top 6, defensive depth is always important near the end of the season/playoffs.

Gryba is one of the reasons why they were able to move Davidson.

He's been better than Davidson in his spot duty this season.

DD was good on a third line with minimum PP time, and about 13-14 minutes of ice time per game.
He was helping Fleismann and Weise a lot last year, and was about to have a decent season before his injury, with Shaw and Lehkonen.

If he plays with Kassian and Letestu or Lander, he will do good.

Pretty obvious we are losing Emelin or Beaulieu to vegas so the Habs add Davidson and Benn in case Juulsen and Sergachev are not ready next year.

He was not good enough for our top-6 and pretty much useless in our bottom 6. 3.5M is pretty expensive for a spare part.

Except it does not cost the Oilers 3.5 million . 20% retained and 3/4 of the year is gone . 2.8 millions . Actually 80% of the season is gone so real cost is 560 K for the rest of the year .

The Oilers also can drop RNH down to the 3rd line and put DD up with some skilled guys on the 2nd line . Ideally RNH should be used as an offensive 2nd line C but he is ok for the rest of this year on the 3rd line

Most fan bases don't like trade offers on HF then when players are sold off for less they bash said player . Most Oiler fans like Davidson but some overrate him base on a stellar 20 games last year . He has not come close to that this year , but he also has had injuries . DD also has had injuries so I think it a fair trade with the potential for Montreal to win big time if he returns to last years form . However that would likely not be with the Oilers anyways as Vegas would probably have grabbed him .

He might do ok now that he has to actually compete for a spot in the lineup instead of having it gift wrapped for him by therrien. I feel like he got a little too comfy knowing that papa meeshell was there always looking out for him and his play suffered. Of course this should in no way excuse his poor play and lack of hustle but what are you gonna do. He might put up some points for edm but ultimately I think they won't resign him and he'll be in Europe or AHL next year.

Kassian wasn't good enough for MT either(for obvious reasons) I'm willing to give him 18 games to see what he has or he sits for a rookie like Caggiula/Slepyshev/Khaira

Kassian not sticking with the Habs had nothing to do with Therrien. Bergevin didn't want him on the team after he made an ass of himself.

way to small to play on the bottom 6
very slow
never comes back to his own end, just skates to the bench
is neutralized very easily
always on his ass 6-10 per game
useless defensively
never used for a face-off in his own end
never shoots, his game is so predictable
would you like me to continue?

I think you're seriously overestimating LV's incentive to take Pouliot over AHL players. In a league where cap-space is king, it makes more sense for them to stock up on young, unprotected players (think Davidson or Reinhart), a couple of vets that will be UFAs in 2017-2018 (think Nash, Enstrom, Plekanec, Grabovski, Filppula, Emelin, Gorges, etc.) that they can flip at the deadline for more picks. It makes no sense for them to take on underachieving veterans with term on their contract.

Reinhart or another young eligible guy or even Fayne make much more sense for Vegas.
