Of all the faults that Laine has the powerplay isn't one of them. Since entering the NHL Laine is 20th overall in powerplay goals: NHL Stats
And Laine has played the least amounts of games of all the guys in the top 20. And most of it has been without a proper 1C and 1D that could feed him the puck.

Laine's place is on the first powerplay, it's as simple as that!
Blake Wheeler was an elite set up man for him. You don’t need to be a center to pass the puck from the right wing to the left. Byfuglien was also a pretty damn good player. Not only as a passer but a real threat to cover when he is on the PP giving Laine more room.

100% agree that Laine will/should be on PP1. Any fans putting Caufield ahead of him are just trapped in the Habs bubble. It won’t take long for them to wake up once they see him in a Habs Jersey.

They both can be on the PP. Don’t need to be one or the other.

Moving on to his 3rd team is damning. Laine having a hissy fit at his coach on the bench is damning. His GM panhandling him in the media is damning. As an asset, his value can only go up with 2 years left on his contract, is damning. Most of all being worthless in a trade is the conviction. The whole NHL seems to agree that this guy is a problem. I can’t believe that the problem is talent, so what is it if it isn’t his personality?

Missing half his games is probably the single biggest thing hurting his value. Then his mental health issues. I have more complaints with Laine but realistically those are the big things.

But Laine is getting the one timer spot on the left wing. Caufield is no longer the primary shooter.
We’ll see what happens. Laine needs to come back and actually play good. If he is, then Caufield could go in the bumper position, whatever, not the end of the world 🤷‍♂️

If the problem was games played the BJs had Laine for 2 more years to fix that and rehab his value. The primary value the BJs get in this trade is getting Laine off the team.

So much of your post history is just massively hyping Laine, you must have had a real crisis when he got traded to the Habs lol.

Blind swing and a miss. That’s just logically false. They have almost $25 in cap space.
They have more cap space now due to unfortunate circumstances but the only reason Habs got him is because they were the only ones willing to eat the entire contract. No idea why they wanted the cap space.

It's speculation at this point but after the team had 2 buyouts and then fired 3 coaches (Babcock, Larsen, Vincent) who were under contract, ownership may have told Waddell that he isn't permitted to spend money on someone who isn't with the team anymore, meaning no retention.

From reports, it sounds like Columbus had other options with a better return, but those deals required Cbus to retain so much and that Columbus took the deal with the Habs because they retained nothing, so you're likely correct.

I am judging by how many fans complained about his defensive mistakes. Of course, I'm not questioning his leadership qualities.
I think his D is what he does best - The guy blocks shots even in pre-season games. I think he is the type of D playoff teams pick up at the TDL for D missions, grit, sacrifice, blah blah blah, stanleycup, leadership.

The quipping im hearing i more around whether he nets a first at the TDL lol. He isnt the second coming of Orr, but a late 1st at a time where players are auctionned at hte last minute? Sure, why not.

Though i dont see why Montreal trades him at TDL if Montreal is still in the picture - players would probably see that as givving up on the season unless some major player comes back somehow.

It’s no coincidence the CBJ won hockey games with David Savard.

It’s also no coincidence the CBJ lost hockey games with Patrik Laine.

Before the Gaudreau situation, I thought the CBJ team would surprise a lot of people, after moving Laine. To a certain extent, I still think they will, if certain/smart roster decisions are made.

I apologize if this is supposed to be a Montreal thread. Good luck with Patty.

I understand the Canadiens are very popular (and very unpopular), but this thread has lasted over a month and has close to two thousand responses. Is there really anything additional needed to be said?

Ouch, that looks like it hurt. Hopefully he's alright, but this seems to be par for the course. It's almost as if he finds a new way to get hurt every year.

Edit: Never mind, he sticks his leg out. Refs don't call it but xhekaj fed the guy his lunch in retaliation and somehow got a call.

Not even a fan of either of these teams but holy incompetence, batman
