LA has a case for
Mikey Anderson
Trevor Lewis
Matt Roy
Trevor Moore (3rd liner tied for goals on the team with 9)
Cam Talbot (everyone said the Goalie was going to be the downfall of LA but he's been solid so far).
Carl Grundstrom (6 goals from a 4th liner with only 10:41 mins a game).

Ryan Suter

The hatred of Stars fans compared to his actual level of play is incredible

Is Suter really "underrated" though? Or just...overly hated? I tend to think of the two as being very separate ideas. His badly deteriorating mobility certainly seems to get him into situations that draw a disproportionate level of derision, but i tend to think of "most underrated" as more of...a guy who does a ton of good, important things, but ends up going largely unnoticed, or unmentioned.

The Kings really do seem to have a pretty decent handful of "underrated" guys. It's kind of fascinating. They've got a bunch of "big names" that seem to draw all the attention, but even after the Dubois trade, they do still have a lot of really solid, contributing depth guys throughout the lineup.

he fits the definition to a T: “not rated or valued highly enough; rated or evaluated too low; underestimated or undervalued”

He’s incredibly undervalued by the fanbase. But acting like he’s the hockey antichrist (and that you know better than the coach or GM of the Yr) is the chic thing to do. He’s still a very, very solid player

Since pretty much everybody on the VGK are individually underrated to some degree or another, it poses a challenge to name just one, but possibly the most underrated is Nicolas Roy.

Yeah, I don't think he's underrated at all based on how he plays right now. Suter sure was underrated though. Quietly top 10 in Norris votes six years in a row, three of those top 5. Was rarely even mentioned in top 10 Dman discussions on certain places on the interweb.

I have a feeling most Nashville fans would come in here to say Colton Sissons, but I think it's probably Alexandre Carrier. Right handed d-man who logs 20 minutes per night in every situation. Can't understate how valuable he is defensively for this team, especially at only $2.5m

Lars Eller, Reilly Smith, Marcus Petterson for the penguins.

Eller has brought stability to the third line, he's excellent defensively and on the pk.

Smith is just a really smart player and brings winning pedigree from Vegas.

Petterson is arguably the only dman on the pens that plays excellent defense.

Yeah. That's exactly how i feel about it.

There was a very long time when Suter was genuinely in the Top-5 conversation, with a bundle of years that were solidly in the Top-10 range. He went totally under the radar through that stretch. Very underrated.

But nowadays, he truly has deteriorated pretty badly. I think the criticism may be overly harsh, but i always look at "underrated" players as the guys you wish you had more of. Not the guys who are..."well, he's not as bad as they say".

Honestly, for the Rec Wings early this year so far its...

Shayne Gotisbehere. :dunno: Haven't had a guy able to run the power play this well in a long time ( four or five years!) let alone two now with Gostisbehere and Seider.

For the Caps it's probably Dowd, although i think Protas should get a nod too.

And, given main boards discussions about him, Ovi's playmaking has been a driving factor for the teams offense this season. So weirdly him in some ways.

As a penguins fan, I'm finding that I really underrated Reilly Smith until he got to town. He seems to almost always make the right play and never takes a shift off.

For the Winnipeg Jets, I will offer up a surprising player… Mark Scheifele.

We didn’t know if he was going to be traded this past offseason and many fans of both the Jets fan base and other fan bases questioned if he was actually a team player and didn’t want him on their teams.

With Wheeler and Dubois gone, and the leadership change that has happened, I have no beefs with Scheifele. He’s taking his defensive game more seriously and remains a consistent, high-end offensive player.

We just need him to stay healthy for the playoffs!

Parayko has seemingly healed finally and is back to being a top pair shutdown guy. Krug has also been a lot better than last year.

Suzuki. Somehow people think hes a 60 points 2c with limited offense, but hes been producing this with absolute shit wingers.

Caufield, whos only seen as a small defensive liability thats gonna give you goals. Hes so much more than that.

Guhle whos a bonafide 1D. MSL wont play him on the PP despite him clearly having the best offensive skillset on D and Matheson being godf***ingawful there.

Kirby Dach... Injuries. Hed be a 1C. He was best player on the ice good towards the end of the camp.

Monahan, hes aging like fine wine play wise, lets just hope the injuries are behind him now.

Montambeault. Unsure if hes a starter or can handle a 50+ games work load but as a 1A type hes very, very good.

The rest of the team, is sadly ahl level or young players developping. Barron, Slaf, X, RHP are good players but have seen their growing pains.

The most used wingers /CC and Matheson are killing this team though. Its fine, year 5 of the rebuild.
