Rumor: Morgan Rielly (will agree to waive NMC) to SJ

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Reilly for a 1st you say, Mike Grier !?!?

Or Rielly is tired of the spotlight in Toronto and asked out. He talked like a guy who dreaded coming to work that last two years. That wears on you. Honestly if I was him there are a lot worse places to be than Northern California for the next 4 years.
incorrect. Begged to stay for a few years now while not being able to perform the one task they needed him for: PP QB.

The 4 teams, in my opinion:

Vancouver (home)
San Jose
Los Angeles
Anaheim

I could see Seattle instead of one of the California teams as it’s closest to Vancouver.

Vancouver makes no sense though . Can’t see him embracing a rebuild at this time in his career . But what do I know

Its Sharks or Ducks and both teams need D.
Ducks don't necessarily need Morgan Rielly, and would only MAYBE consider adding him if they're trading Mintyukov or moving Mintyukov to the right side long-term. They also wouldn't give up very much to acquire him. Leafs would be lucky to get Zellweger for Rielly straight up, and would probably get less.

The one D the Ducks DO need is a right-handed guy to play in their top 4. They're going to IMO sign a free agent RHD, trade for a RHD and play a kid at RHD in order to fill out all three pairings. Moore needs waivers to go down now, so he's probably the 3rd pair kid RHD or the press box # 7 or # 8 guy. Zellweger is likely traded as he's young, has potential, has trade value and is stuck in the press box every night behind 3 left handed guys who are currently better than him. Also would need waivers to go down.

I will really miss Rielly. He aged out of his biggest advantage - his skating - but of all the core players, he's always felt the most like a Maple Leaf. Genuinely loved being here, understood the importance of being a Leaf, didn't grind for every, last, dollar in contract negotiations, and universally liked as a person by his teammates and those around the team. It's time for both sides to move on, but it's still too bad. He signed that 8 year deal and it looked like he was going to wind up the franchise leader in games played. He'll get a helluva welcome back when he returns, even from the suits.

He played 76 games this year, so "stuck in the press box every night" is probably an overstatement. Plus he plays both sides.

Mintyukov, Moore, and Helleson all got healthy scratched more often than he did over the season.

Fair, but moving forward, LaCombe Mintyukov Hinds are above him on the left side, and they'll bring in 2 RHD that are above him. That makes him the number 6 guy playing on his off side IF he can play better than Moore.

Of course, injuries are a thing.

I need to see more data on Hinds. He was a low event kind of safe D at the end of the year for Anaheim, but it wasn't a lot to go on; I'm confident in saying he can hang in the NHL, but not sure to what level yet.

Zellweger when he returned against LV was much more impactful, and at times has been very effective. In fact, when paired with the right player his xG% was quite good:

Zell-Carlson - 65.6%
Zell-Gudas - 57.1%
Zell-Moore - 51.4%
Zell-Trouba - 49.7%

And not a lot of minutes, but Zellweger-Lacombe was over 80%.

Also keep in mind, things can change fast with young players. Zellweger was top 4 early on, and Mintyukov looked like the odd man out, but then it flipped. But it's not so vast a difference that it couldn't flip back if Zellweger takes a step or Mintyukov regresses. We're talking abotu 22 year olds after all, they can be volatile.

I’m not even sure what to expect. I’ll be happy with anything. A 2nd and 3rd would make me very happy. Anything more and I’m loving the deal.
With the prices so far, I don't even know what to predict any longer. Rielly could go for anything from a conditional 5th round pick to 2nd overall and a top prospect.
