Maybe if Rielly refuses to waive his NMC to go anywhere else we'll get him cheaper but the cap increase means he's more or less fairly paid now.

That is overpayment by Sharks

1) Faulk as a RD carried more value
2) He didn't carry the risk that Rielly contract comes with
3) Faulk was better player in recent years then Rielly and is more dependable in own end

It would be terrible asset management for Grier to trade a 1st round pick for Rielly

Small cap dump + 2nd and mid level prospect would probably be what Leafs should expect if any deal with SJ comes

As a neutral fan in this matter, Rielly would be in SJS to help Dickinson and co to start their NHl career not to be a 1D in a contending team. I think he can be a good 2nd pair veteran for SJ.
