Rumor: Morgan Rielly (will agree to waive NMC) to SJ

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Why do I feel the need to come here and tell Toronto fans that SJ will not be trading the 9th OV for Morgan Reilly?
Did someone suggest that ? I think most are asking for modest return ( like a 2 nd or a 3rd plus ok prospect ) . I think there is a decent chance than this is where he lands but I’ll be absolutely gobsmacked if it’s 1st , let alone a high one . But way to get out front of it ?

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Rielly returned a late first. NHL GMs are morons who pay absurd prices all the time, especially if the player they're acquiring used to be good. Rielly's name recognition alone will return far more than he's actually worth (which would be a late second round pick in my opinion).

I would personally wait to see how Rielly responds under a new coach before moving off him. He certainly did not fit Berube's style. I think he is still a capable 3-4.
I've been advocating we trade Rielly for 2 years now, and have reversed course with the coaching change and the cap exploding. I'd be interested in giving him 1 more season. Slotted correctly with the right D partner I think he can be a useful top 4 guy.

leafs getting a late 1st for Rielly would be amazing. sad to see him go but if thats the return, ill pack his bags for him.

I wonder what you could get for Knies + COL 2027 1st + Late 2026 1st...
