What do you think the intent is when someone skates across the ice to crosscheck someone in the head?
Sure, and that's supposed to justify the reaction in you world?

That's because she's a giant hypocrite.

Because he's a big baby who can't handle his emotions?
To send Grieg a message. Same way you don't hack the goalies gloves after the whistle/shoot the puck after the whistle/etc. So many of these unwritten rules that almost always result in scrums or some form of retaliation from the other team. Are you new here?

I think the number of players that have an actual intent to send another player to the IR is so incredibly rare it's not even worth talking about in most scenarios - including this one. Retaliation doesn't automatically equal intent to injure I hope you can understand that.

Did you read what I just said? Yes I am justifying retaliation but like i just mentioned in the exact sentence you bolded - Rielly would have been better off with a face wash or check to the ribs. Keep twisting my words though

Sounds like most leaf fans would cross check their kid in the head on the drive home because of the code.
Sounds like you chose to ignore what I said about Rielly reacting wrong and deserving punishment.

Sounds like Sens fans and leafs haters ignoring the question.

Was Ridley’s slap shot a dick move?

a leaf player finally sticking up for something lol took them long enough.. enjoy the suspension though morgan
This is 1 of those things that is bad, I think sucker headshots are brutal, but I think it lights a fire in the Leafs and they will be better because of it.
Also the battle of Ontario has some heat in it again and thats a win for everyone

And what would your reaction be if some punk had crosschecked your kid in the head?

This is entirely a matter of appropriate response.

What Greig did warranted the equivalent of a face wash, not a potentially career altering injury.

There is zero defense for Reilly, zero. Even if you think that Greig did was wrong.

Reilly deserves an "intent to injure" level suspension
I didn’t say Ridley deserved what Rielly did and I said that Rielly deserves to be suspended. So why you asking a question so passionately that you already know the answer to?

It seems that people have to go one way or the other. Is it really hard to say that Reilly was a dick and dirty AND what Ridley did was a dick move?

Get used to it. You know damn well they'd be singing a different tune had it been the other way around.

Simple explanation for people who don’t understand why Reilly reacted that way.

When you boast or say f*** off after scoring on an empty net you’re asking for attention. Positive and negative.

Reilly deserves a few games for an overboard negative reaction to a stupid behaviour.

Simple question.

If your 14 year old kid did what Ridley did on an open net breakaway would you have a chat with them on the drive home?

I would. And it wouldn’t be praising lol

Why would you have a chat with your kid about a slap shot? They are bloody kids and he/she scored a goal. That is a great way to confuse them. What if the goalie comes out the net, misplays the puck and gives it to the opposing team with the net wide open, what should they do? Skate up slowly and tap it in or wind up and hammer it home as quickly as possible?

The irony in this thread is just too great. Trying to justify an aggressive response for a slap shot!

Canada
I remember as a kid playing street hockey there was always this kid that would troll and rip slapshots on open nets and the neighborhood would get pissed off and beat him up... Maybe this is him lol

Ok. That’s fine. You’d be one of the hockey parents that pats their kid on the back after they do something like that. I wouldn’t .

We can disagree 👍🏻
100% and I would tell the coach to bench my kid for the whole next game too.

My only criticism of the play is that Rielly should have hit him harder.

When a no-talent scrub like Ridly Greig - - who’s just as useless as his father was - - is showboating and trying to send a message, there has to be a return message sent.

Novice fans new to the game have no concept of physical hockey. So I’m not surprised at how traumatized some people are by the hit.

Are the networks issuing a warning to viewers that the play is disturbing and contains graphic violence before showing the replay?

And of course most of the media misses the mark, once again.

What Rielly did should be the normal and expected response to bad behavior. A player can commit an unsportsmanlike play, its well within his right to jab at the opponent, but everyone should expect a swift response, and in the NHL that means they can pummel him in public.

Here's the disconnect, if Reilly's intention was to send a message, he wouldn't have lead with his tick to a guys head. That not how people send messages, it's how babies who can't control themselves act.

Last time I checked, every time there a late stick to goalies gloves, there aren't croschecks to guys heads,

Reilly's baby emotions got the best of him and he acted out on them. He wasn't sending a message, he was angry looking to get revenge, are you need here?

The lengths some will go to trying to justify Reilly losing control of his senses is bizarre, he did what he did and I'm sure even he realizes that he lost control and wasn't acting rationally, but somebody's got to come out and defend him and make themselves look even more foolish than him I guess.
