Simple explanation for people who don’t understand why Reilly reacted that way.

When you boast or say f*** off after scoring on an empty net you’re asking for attention. Positive and negative.

Reilly deserves a few games for an overboard negative reaction to a stupid behaviour.

Simple question.

If your 14 year old kid did what Ridley did on an open net breakaway would you have a chat with them on the drive home?

I would. And it wouldn’t be praising lol

So many folks twisting themselves into knots trying to justify a stick headshot because they didn't like how someone put a puck into the net. And I don't care what teams are involved, a headshot like that has to be a minimum of 3 games.
its the same thing as when player shoots the puck at the goalie after a whistle

I've played hockey, know the code and have even written research papers on it. I don't think even the most traditional code justifies a surprise cross check to the face after a showboating empty netter. "An invitation to dance" would be more in line with the "code". But even then, I (seemingly along with many others) wish this part of hockey culture would change a bit. We can criticize hockey culture and its unwritten rules. You know, "there is no ought from is".
That's totally fair - we can talk about the degree of retaliation that was necessary all day. Like I just mentioned Rielly would have been better off with a face wash or hit to the ribs than a crosscheck to the face.

I was just making a point that retaliation was definitely warranted here. You don't do that lol

Sounds like most leaf fans would cross check their kid in the head on the drive home because of the code.

Reilly is an idiot. I get you’re annoyed but that was unnecessary.

Ottawa with the unreal troll job, no penalties all game and super disciplined and then end it like that i to the empty net. Oh well, fun to watch

Ridley is no fool. The Sens barn was packed with leaf fans. He was sending a strong message to the fan base.

If my son did that I would be giving him the keys to the car... because he made an adult decision. He is ready to drive.

And typically when players do that they don't get cross checked in the head after. Sure a response should have happened just not that response.
I agree, he should have left about 1 inch of stick out and gave him the ole but end.
Looks like a lil shot but hurts like a MFer.

You're delusional if you don't think Giroux was criticizing his teammate in that interview.

There was nothing in his disposition during and after the question was phrased, twice for clarification, that showed he was in favour of the slap shot.

A veteran like Giroux would not be in favour of that kind of act, and he said just as much on live television to the country.
you apparently know nothing of Giroux

and for the last time, It's Ridley Grieg and Morgan Really?

And what would your reaction be if some punk had crosschecked your kid in the head?

This is entirely a matter of appropriate response.

What Greig did warranted the equivalent of a face wash, not a potentially career altering injury.

There is zero defense for Reilly, zero. Even if you think that Greig did was wrong.

Reilly deserves an "intent to injure" level suspension

Morgan was probably more mad that they lost to the worst team in the east than he was that Grieg shot the puck hard. He just took out his frustration on the first thing he saw.

He will need to be more disciplined than that in the leafs one round of playoffs.

Ya know whats kind of funny is there was a period of time where I thought mouth breather means someone who gave soo much effort they had to breathe through their mouth.
I bet if I look back at old old posts, I could find one where a player had a good hardworking shift and I said something like, Man what a shift by so and so, a real mouth breather lol

Greig didn't do anything wrong, to me it wasn't disrespectful. It looked like he was just happy to end the game. The NHL benefits from having more colourful players. Loved his passion, most memorable empty net goal that I can recall since Gretzky's 50 in 39. As for Rielly, I would never condone crosschecking players to the head, I also would never hold it against a player for trying to make a point, this also shows passion. Good for Rielly for standing up there, but what he did there was an intent to injure, and The NHL cannot condone this, he would have been better if he dropped the gloves. He's likely going to get a suspension. How many games is anyone's guess.

Now if only Ridley Gag could display that much skill in one round of the playoffs.
