We'll be keeping ours, but you can do with Sheriff Reilly whatever you wish.
there are a few things I want to see
1. length of suspension
2. Will Greig be targeted?
3. will the Sens or another team try it again
4. if 3 happens, whats going to be the reaction

Didn't we see something similar with Cousins?
it happened against team x and next game a different team went after him?
Is it really worth it for another team to go after him for this though? I feel he would have done his job again just for having another team's focus slightly off.

I am thinking he may have to fight a few times.
I find it classless but not as egregious as what other players are alluding too.
With that in mind, odds are he is going to have a rough time the next few games.
You think the bluejackets, Ducks, Hawks and Lightning give a rats ass about him showing up the leafs?
Man you guys really do think you're the center of the universe...

They probably be extra careful to not blow a lead and have to pull their goalie.

Best preventative measure.

The reaction will always be the same; expect something. Just keep the sticks out of it.

he will literally never do that again, I will bet money on it. He may do other asshole things, because he is an asshole - but not that. and not against us
Why wouldn't he? It's not like he'll be scared. And he clearly got one of their best players to lose their composure and now be suspended, so advantage Greig. I'd take one those to the neck for the joy of seeing the other team lose their shit and potentially damage their chances. That's the type of thing that de-rails a team on the way to or in the playoffs as the other team stands and laughs even though they started it.

Easy to say for us Sens fans since our team has been shit with the worst owner in sports, but I don't think what happened was a deterrent for Greig. This is who he is and if it isn't this, it'll be something else.

I doubt we see a repeat of this because of all the variables involved, but the only way he sees it as a no go is if it comes from within the organization. Who knows if they care since the Senators are in the news getting attention, their rival was rattled and may have sparked a dead rivalry for next year, while still winning the game, and they have needed to find a damn pulse for a while now. This is all actually a good turn of events for the Senators.

I think they would respond. But I think they would do it within the rules of the game....like hit him harder and make sure to finish their next check on him...

Maybe when there's a scrum go to him and gave a few words.

But B-lining it to the player like he hit on your underage daughter just shows a lack of control and restraint.

Weird that he cares more about this than his teammates getting cheap shot with a dangerous play.

Why does this garner more traction from Rielly than his teammate getting checked from behind into the boards, for example?

Over the years he's been on the ice plenty of times the leaf players got targetted in some way or another and never B lined it to go cross check them in the head.

Is Greig THAT good of a pest?
I don’t think we disagree with eachother. What Rielly did was dirty. But there are people here that honestly believe what Grieg did doesn’t warrent any type of response. Which is ridiculous

The conversation is getting to be something else.
The shot on the EN was a way to mock the Leafs. You get punched for that every time in this league. Same as shooting after a whistle, nothing against official rules, but something that it's not accepted within the hockey players culture. It's disrespectful and the code is to not do that. Every player knows it, every player knows the code. It was brought in by the players and they continue to preserve it. Not the fan's place to decide what players should accept.
If you disagree with the code, convince the players to end it. Good luck!!!
We, the fans don't get to decide what the players want to have in their unwritten rules.
We live by many unwritten rules in public lives too, you don't make fun of large people or disabled people, it's legal, but it's generally known to be a duchy thing to do. You let a pregnant woman take a seat. Not a law, just part of living in a society. Respect goes a long way and it's sad to see it being ignored by younger generations. Selfish behaviour.
Those that don't get that will live sad and isolated lives, no-one likes disrespectful d-bags.r

As for Reilly. He had the right idea, punish the disrespectful punk. He just went too far and deserves a suspension for that. Should have just punched him with his hand. But not with glove on as that's another no-no in the hockey community.

I'm using two stats groups:

1) 2017 onwards in the context of Parros being the head of the DOPS, which apparently to some is a big reason why Leafs are getting all these suspensions (which is false during this time period)

2) 2009 onwards, which is the most complete historical dataset I could find, to show whether or not the Leafs are the most suspended team in league history (actual quote, I shit you not. also entirely false)

Two different arguments, so two different stats pulls to show how utterly wrong their arguments are.
What did you find for 2017 onwards?

How many people in this thread are even aware that Rielly's wasn't the only cross check to the face, after the whistle, in a game this Saturday?

But no one was watching the Columbus-Tampa game.

No, it was for all of the Leaf fans in attendance.

He raised his arm, did you not see the video. But some punishment is deserved for result and not even during game action. 6 games seems unreasonable.
You said he was aiming for the shoulder, and to that I said that it is a stupid place to aim for. The ribs are a lot more painful.
