Guys, there is a bit of a debate here in the thread whether or not slapping a puck into an empty net in a game that you're about to win is "OKAY" to do.
So, you can make a case that it is NOT cool to do that in the NHL out of respect. OR, you can say that it doenst matter how you score it, its in the rules and allowed so go ahead.

Whatever side you take on the above is IRRELEVANT , because Reilly cross checked him in the head. He chased him down, had lots of time to change his mind or turn away... but he literally chased him with the intent to smash him... which he did. so whether or not the Slapshot was a dick more of not, means absolutely nothing.

Thought it would be 4, leaning towards 6 now that it's an in-person hearing. I bet the fact it was after the whistle is going to end up being a determining factor in the length.

The Perron suspension made for a pretty easy case it should be 6. Pre-mediate cross checks to the head now have a precedent and the only thing different about this one is that it was over hurt feelings instead of a hurt player.
I think it'll be 8 games for the reason you said. Perron had at least some reason to do it, even if it was wrong, and he got 6 games.

If Rielly does nothing everyone would be preaching about how soft the Leafs are. Every single team buries Grieg in that situation. I’ve never been more certain about something in my life
You're a Ranger fan so you shouldn't speak with such certainty. Let's say Zib, Fox, Kreider, Panarin, Laf & Trocheck are on the ice at the end of the game playing with the empty net. Tro is the only guy who might do something & honestly I'm not sure he does anything but get in Grieg's face.

Hell, Trouba didn't do shit when Draisatl slashed his stick out of his hands on his way to the bench while the Oilers were skating back to the bench to celebrate the winner at MSG a year or so ago.

As a non Leaf fan, I was thoroughly impressed by the toughness Rielly displayed there.

Im sure players around the league are shaking in fear.

/s. Leafs look like they wwant to show toughness, without understanding it.

It’s not me that’s embarrassed, it’s Greigs teammates.
Between the Stutzle dives, this Greig thing, Pinto laughing about it (plus whatever he did on the gambling front) and their constant underperformance (28th in the league) ...kind of an embarrassing team. It's like a bunch of kids with a little bit of talent and no mentorship. They appear to need some veterans to show them how to play the game.

LOL, they’re not stupid, they’re not going to say anything that is inflammatory.

They know better when the Leafs are involved and the media starts circling the wagons.
Why didn't the players speak their opinions to leafsnet. Can't believe the players disrespected Toronto again by not voicing their thoughts on the matter explicitly

Why didn’t the soft Ottawa player turn around and get ready to fight as soon as he shot the puck. Why did he try to run?

What makes this act selfless?

Would love to know the difference between the two instances. Is it cause he had another teammate near?

yeah this one is worse. Two separate cross checks to the head. No discipline. No HFB blow up.

Based on some reactions here you’d think Rielly is the first player to commit such an act.

The NHL has just failed to take it seriously. I’m sure Rielly will have an example made of him.

I remember that Ranger Artem Anisimov got tagged by the other team when he did his sniper celebration in the HBO documentary series.

He apologized after the game to his teammates but most of them seemed to think it was pretty funny.

Meanwhile, Selanne threw his glove in the air and shot it down and everyone thought it was the coolest thing ever.

A lot of this code stuff is inconsistent nonsense.
