The Leafs have been getting ragged on for being a weak both mentally and physically. Soft team. This was clearly getting to Rielly, who did this to “make a statement”. But he doesn’t realize a cross check to the head after a goal isn’t making any positive statement, nobody is impressed or respecting you, you just look like a little kid who lost their cool. It completely backfired.

Meanwhile Greig comes out of this looking like a pest who successfully got his way, which is exactly the player he’s trying to be in this league. Epic troll job.
Exactly! If Reilly wants to be tough then tap a guy on the shoulder and go. I’m wondering what’s going on in that Leafs’ room? How are MM, AM, WN reacting to other guys wanting to start brawls in which they’re have to fight?

If Rielly does nothing everyone would be preaching about how soft the Leafs are. Every single team buries Grieg in that situation. I’ve never been more certain about something in my life

Oddly enough there is an in between threshold between crosscheck to head and nothing, that most players would opt for.

Even if you don't like what Greig did, it doesn't call for getting cross checked in the head. Better response would be to simply beat them the next time they faced each other....or even, take down his number and get a little physical with him in the next game.

I'm getting really tired of these so-called "unwritten" rules. Baseball and hockey seems to have more of them than any other sport. If you don't like it, outscore your opponent so it doesn't happen.

Y'all need to come to grips with the cold hard truth.

Greig knew what he was doing and would have expected a response. He's a rat. This is what he does.

No player should expect to get a crosscheck to the head as a response. Should Greig have put his hands up anticipating a stick to the face? You'd all be calling him a wimp.

The appropriate response from Reilly would have been to grab him, drop gloves, and use the hands he was born with and take a beating from Greig for thinking he was tough for a minute.

Reilly effed up. Suspension is warranted.

Something tells me that the upcoming suspension will be another "proof" that Parros hates the Leafs.
The Leafs have the most suspensions in the league since Parros took over. Considering they are widely regarded as the softest team in the entire league, this is something to note.

Not talking about this Rielly play, it's obviously a suspension, probably 4 games, but no idea how someone can even argue against the Parros shit, when literally the exact same plays are made against our guys numerous times without being suspended.

Most teams usual stay within 'the code' when retaliating. I think that might be part of the problem.
Selfish acts get punished.

Leafs need to work on their decision making, and be less selfish.

If you don't like Greig doing that - either straight up challenge him to drop the gloves or wait to the next game and shove it in his face by whooping the Sens asses actually playing hockey.

I LOVE what Greig did. It's a rival game, and the Sens have had a dreadful season. Play the game like you flipping care, and maybe it'll drag the guys who have slept-walked through the season so far into the damn fight. If you're a Sens player and "counsel" Greig, you're part of the problem.

He sure did, and he should be proud of himself after he'll get suspended for 6 or more games and cost his team their #1D while the Leafs are sitting in 7 place and aren't guaranteed to make the playoffs. I'm sure if the Leafs miss the playoffs because of this all Leafs fans will rejoice that at least Reilly didn't let that slap shot on an empty netter go unpunished, a goal that was gonna be scored either way.
If they miss the playoffs it won’t be because of an unsportsmanlike play. I am sure you would try to convince yourself it was.

Does shoulder (where he initially hit) count as an option?

So wait 8 months and beat them in a meaningless regular season game? How soft have we gotten?

No, they don't. At all. WTF are you even talking about?

I just looked at the list. Haven't even gone through every team yet, and already can confidently say you're full of crap.

Parros took over in Sept of 2017.

Washington has 11 suspensions to the Leafs 8 since Parros took over.

You’re ignoring or excusing the most important part of the whole situation, and that’s the unsportsmanlike play with the slap shot.

If one of MM, AM, or WN or anyone else in the league, decided they wanted to go down that path, great, but expect to be punished.

The NHL needs players to taunt, to show up their opponents, jab, all of those things, but at the same time the NHL needs players to respond accordingly.

The rats will decide how far they want to go based on the response. Marchand, for example, should have been eating through straw after licking Callahan and he likely wouldn’t have licked Komarov.
