Maybe Leafs’ top players should express competitive spirit during the game? Reilly could square up and fight Grieg next time they play. Attacking a guy with a blind side cross check to the head long after the whistle and while the guy is skating to his bench to do the fist bump goal celebration isn’t showing anything but selfishness.
The Leafs have been getting ragged on for being a weak both mentally and physically. Soft team. This was clearly getting to Rielly, who did this to “make a statement”. But he doesn’t realize a cross check to the head after a goal isn’t making any positive statement, nobody is impressed or respecting you, you just look like a little kid who lost their cool. It completely backfired.

Meanwhile Greig comes out of this looking like a pest who successfully got his way, which is exactly the player he’s trying to be in this league. Epic troll job.

Respect in the handshake lines, respect after they get scored on their empty net. With all their unwritten rules success, this is probably the year for them!

The Perron one should be a solid comparable but there's some minor differences.

1. Zub literally did nothing wrong.
2. Perron's reaction was due to a teammate being knocked unconscious.

Reilly's antics weren't due to what appeared to be a potential major injury. It was because of a goal. That's certainly 'worse' for that reason. That said, Greig instigated it to a degree, unlike Zub.

Will be interesting to see how many games he gets, but I'm sure the Leads fans supporting Reilly will claim some conspiracy whether it's 1 or 101 games...

Man child that resorts to violence because he can't control his emotions. You try to score 7 goals against the senators the next time you play them and laugh at his face if you felt disrespected with the slapshot, you don't go and assault him. That's just pathetic.

Hahaha no.

Not every team is as sensitive as the little Leafs with with their little feelings.

Nice try though.

It's funny how you're trying to make it sound like they're tough while showing they're super sensitive about their feelings.

Which one is it? Are they tough or are they the biggest softest babies in the world?
If Rielly does nothing everyone would be preaching about how soft the Leafs are. Every single team buries Grieg in that situation. I’ve never been more certain about something in my life

Perron turned around and saw Larkin down by Zub and assumed it was him.

Friedman seems to think it should be a potential 6 games (or more) on the latest 32 thoughts. Marek hasn't really weight in one way, or another

As far as precedents go:

1) The most recent precedent for hitting someone well after a whistle and injuring them is 1 playoff game, which equates to about 2 regular season games. (Makar on McCann)
2) The most recent precedent for crosschecking someone in the head on a non-hockey play is 6 games (Perron).

So I would expect the suspension to be 7 or 8 games. If it's more than that, I think the Leafs win an appeal on stare decisis and Parros loses face.

There are lot of ways to 'bury' someone. Going McSorely on Brashear way probably not the wisest..hence suspension.

If Morgan is too fragile to body check then a slash to shin pads would've been plenty to send a message.

Imagine being that much butthurt because of that goal lol

There was nothing wrong with the goal; there's something wrong with Reilly's mental state and his stupid ass should be sent home for 5 o 6 games

It should certainly be a suspension

The Pearl clutching is a bit much.

Didn’t Zegras deliver a cross check to the face pretty recently? What came of that again?

Simmonds took a stick breaking cross check to the face and there was no discipline. Can’t remember any outrage over that

Did the assailant go full Dale Hunter like Rielly did? Did Simmonds suffer career-ending damage like Grieg?:sarcasm:

Some Vancouver fan in this thread was calling for 25 games, to "teach him a lesson". You can't make this shit up.
