To me Miller is closer to an Evander Kane or TDA type of distressed asset (which very much has fit our MO) than a big splash like an Eichel, Tkachuk or EP.

Miller is better than TDA or Kane of course and will cost more but he most definitely is not close to an Eichel, Tkachuk or EP in terms of impact/cost to acquire, which is how I would view a "big splash" personally.

Miller is a 2C, those bit spashes would be unquestioned 1Cs

I would love a 1C, but we can still have a franchise changing add at 2C if it's for the right guy. Given the game he plays and what we are lacking, I do think Miller could be that right guy.

Like I said I'd be cool with Miller and yeah he could wind up helping this team a lot. I just have a feeling we do something else, and it does wind up being bigger than Miller. Necas for Dobson or something crazy like that. Hell we could do that and get Miller.

I mean he certainly has the upside to be an Eichel level big splash, but the cost of acquisition will not and should not be nearly as high as he's a distressed asset even moreso than Eichel was given the circumstances about the treatment that Eichel wanted to try, which is saying a lot.

I don't think he's a Tkachuk level splash. MT is the kind of PF that basically comes around once or twice a generation.

Have a feeling we will trade for somebody that has not been considered "available" and it'll be completely out of the blue. Similar to when we got Skjei and Trocheck, neither of whom were in any trade rumors until we grabbed them like right at the deadline that year. Not gonna make any guesses as to who that mystery player might be. Of course I could see us just getting Miller instead but I don't consider him that big of a splash or the result of a "pounce."

I think someone has said this every year since those trades and we are still waiting. They may have been the exceptions, not the rule of how the organization acquires players.

Of course there are differences in the "splashes", but a center that has put up 100+ points in a recent season is not a small splash. Is there a reason he is being offered and not at full value...of course. Eichel had a reason as well.

Sounds like it will require wooing by the Canes re: how great Raleigh is. I have read it's a NMC situation similar to Patrick Kane's with certain locations having a distinct advantage.

It’s been already said his preference is eastern USA and the only 2 teams who have got permission to talk to him directly is the rangers and hurricanes. If he didn’t want to go to Carolina it would already be known

Tough to say on Cozens is he a 68 point guy he was 2 years ago or is he more of a 50 point guy like last year.

We crab about KK's $4.82M contract; $7.1M is a cap killer for that level of production (-18 yikes)

Yeah, we can objectively say that's very encouraging for our chances at getting Miller.

Generally speaking, it would be rare for any high tier player that's on the trading block to have a NMC that has us on his shortlist. Even after all of the success we've had at being an annually playoff team; the fact of the matter is there's just not many of those tier of players (skilled top 6 forwards or skilled top 4 defensemen) that become available with an NMC.

Also, we don't need retention from Vancouver, and we would be willing to trade an unprotected 1st round pick unlike the Rangers previously (maybe they have changed their tune on that since coming back to trade talks though).

If Rod hasn't already spoken with Miller directly, I hope he will very soon. He's a big asset for any player interested in joining our team, but even more so I think for a very competitive guy like Miller. As others have said, Rod's strong work ethic should be appealing to Miller.

In depth analysis of Cozens will show you that 68 point year was an outlier where everyone on that team scored like mad because no defense was being played, and that Cozens is a soft perimeter player who had a lucky year picking corners. More suited for the wing than at C, doesn’t drive play and plays a small man’s game for a guy with his frame.

If Rod hasn't already spoken with Miller directly, I hope he will very soon. He's a big asset for any player interested in joining our team, but even more so I think for a very competitive guy like Miller. As others have said, Rod's strong work ethic should be appealing to Miller.

The best thing that could happen is the Canucks go on a losing skid and the noise becomes louder and they are basically forced to move him now rather then wait till the summer

NYR fans sound very divided about him returning unless the cost is low - mostly, fear being saddled with his and Mika's contract at the same time. Yet, they always find a way out of them, if needed.

Honestly, if Vancouver is smart, they should wait to trade Miller until the offseason. They'll have far more leverage for a high return when the cap goes up and when teams can fit him in without dealing contracts.

Not sure they can wait that long is the problem especially if they start losing before the deadline and if his preferred destination is eastern USA the market is already limited I just don’t see the offers being that much better in the summer. What if finishes this season below 60 points?

Nah, that makes sense. We’re in the “Miller would be good to have, but not necessary” part of the negotiation, but could be convinced to take him if there’s a sweetener attached.
