Hmm. I think he should be suspended too. But…

Your passion wasn’t in the Perron suspension or the Gallagher suspension and…

You didnt think Dillon should have gotten any suspension for his primary headshot that he got 3 games for.

Why is this one different?
I think the Dillon play was a legitimate hockey play. There can at least be a debate about it. Crosschecking a guy in the face after a goal, down 2, with 5 seconds left…..there is not debate that it’s a hockey play or hit gone wrong.

Yes, only those who have played understand the need to act like a manbaby and throw a hissy fit because a guy on a team you're 18 points up on in the standings shot the puck too hard into the empty net.
that play is always going to draw a scrum. just like shooting the puck on net after a whistle. like it or hate it its a well established part of hockey culture.

No one is denying that Rielly should have responded for the perceived disrespect by Greig. The issue is that it was done in the wrong way. What he should have done was drop the gloves, take the instigator and challenge him fairly. Crosschecking him in the head was a dirty play and should suffer a long suspension for it.

What his reaction showed was he didn't want to fight and decided to use his stick in an illegal manner that could have caused an injury to Greig. It was a dumb, immature play by Rielly and should be punished harshly. Just because he's too much of a wimp to drop his gloves.

Guaranteed if there were legitimate quotes asked of the players they would all say it should have been differently, but the response in theory was justified. Certainly appears you are defending it. Perhaps the tune will change with a 6 game suspension for a team with no other defense to speak of.

I personally don’t care unless the Leafs miss the playoffs because of it. Which seems unlikely given they can likely play .500 hockey until the end of the season and still make it at this point.

Rielly did it in a nothing game on a team that is solely judged by playoff success.

I highly doubt Rielly does that in a playoff series. Most NHL players pick and choose their battles, like Jason Spezza did it in a meaningless regular season game against Winnipeg.

I honestly don't get what's so objectionable about taking a slapshot into an empty net. This is the first I've heard of this being a CODE(tm) violation.

That's because it's being made up here as an excuse.

Code is related to dangerous plays where people can get hurt like running a goalie or a fighter fighting a non fighter. Ego and trash talk has nothing to do with codes.

This reminds me of Tim Hunter and Pierre Turgeon and I think with that, it's completely unnecessary, I think it needs to be punished severely to 25 gamers. This will send a message that this is not tolerated when trying to protect a head injury with CTE issues. This is a red line for NHL especially with lawsuit in the past. If they don't do severely, they are a joke. 25+ games or the NHL is a joke and will send a wrong message, easily send a goon to do it for them and get less suspension.
