Great find! Note the policeman stepping onto the ice, back in the days when cops were expected to break up brawls on the ice as if it were the street.

Imagine being one of those fans with a rinkside seat.

I remember reading about the night that Henri Richard's number 16 was retired. His famous older brother Maurice was introduced and apparently the Forum crowd went nuts cheering him. Even though, of course, he had been retired since 1960 and there were probably that good number of people in the rink that night that would have had very little or no memory of when he actually did play for Montreal. This had the important people on hand, certainly including the Rocket, that good deal embarrassed because after all, this was very deservedly so Henri's night.

November 10, 1963 – Thanks buddy ! - Gordie Howe have just scored his record breakingt 545th NHL-goal, assisted by Billy McNeill. McNeill’s wife had died four years earlier (Polio). While she was hospitalized, Red Wings GM Jack Adams ordered McNeill to travel with the team to Chicago. While McNeill was away, his young wife died. Neither McNeill, Howe or any other Detroit players forgave Adams for that

Well, thank you for starting this thread (this being the second part). It is a bit addictive and actually pretty interesting to research. Finding the dates of the photographs is kind of fun, as many are undated.

Thanks RGO, I just keep adding these to my file of pics ( for my own reference of course). The old man loves the ones from the 60's and earlier, he is about to turn 80. Good way to knock some time off together when I get down to see him.

Good to hear that your dad is enjoying the old photos. It's a trip down memory lane for guys of his generation. I like them too, as the helmetless players were more identifiable.

The challenge is often to find photos that are of high quality. I have so many that I can not post, because of poor quality/low resolution. Also, Getty Images have bought many of the collections from photographers like Denis Brodeur and Steve Babineau for example. So many of these are not available in high resolution unless you want their annoying watermark.

I started watching hockey during the fall of 73, grade 3. I had a few hockey paperbacks left to me though through a older cousin and a cool friend of the family who lived in the GTA. He brought me the full preview section on the 76 Canada Cup from one of the dailys. Still have it. Wound up reading numerous books, some from the school library and knew about the legends of the game and all the stories, like the riot in Montreal, Lynn Patrick, longest game, etc. A few times as a kid I would mention something from a decade or two past and he would look at me and ask how in the hell did I know about that. He isn't too big on hockey history, but gets a kick out of the old names and sometimes leads into a story of when he played junior, then senior A.

I get a kick at how things like the nets, boards, look just a few years prior and earlier then when I picked up watching it. Then again I am like that with cars, bikes and electric guitars as well.

You dig up some great ones I have not seen and would not find on my own. Thanks!

It was a rough night for the newcomers. Smith saw 9 goals slip past him. Murray was -5 in the game and Mikkelson -4. Bucyk had two goals and Walton two assists

April 4, 1979 – Jim Rutherford (# 1) beaten by Jacques Lemaire (# 25) who scored the last of his eight NHL-hat tricks in this game. He only played two more regular season games. Danny Bolduc (# 19) and Steve Shutt (# 22) with their backs to the camera

March 22, 1992 – Future Hall of Famer Ray Scapinello shooting an Octopus - He never once missed a game due to injury or illness. That’s quite a feat for someone who was a linesman for 2,500 regular season NHL games plus 426 playoff games between 1971 and 2004

June 2, 1994 - Glenn Anderson have just scored a shorthanded game winner in game 2 of the finals.
Kirk McLean, Jyrki Lumme and Jeff Brown are the other players

October 18, 1996 - Not a great photo per se, but Craig MacTavish is of course the answer to a classic trivia question. Who was the last helmetless player in the NHL? Here he is during his last NHL season chasing after Aleksei Kovalev

December 29, 2011 - Jagr saluting his old fans in Pittsburgh, getting the finger and ugly faces in return
