Moose Season Discussion

Moose should be better than this. They have some solid talent on the team. I think they should consider a coaching change in the offseason. Getting shelled every night isn't good for our prospects.
Friends hiring friends? Nolan Baumgartner was a disaster in Vancouver by all accounts and the team improved once he was let go. That didn't stop the Moose from hiring their long-time former d-man.

They need a goalie.
and a coach.

I realize that winning is only one component of a much larger equation in the AHL, but the Moose are dead last in the league now... at what point does team ineptitude start becoming a concern in terms of the Jets' overall prospects?

I think the issue is a slight change in philosophy compared to when they ran the Moose as a Canucks affiliate. Under the Canucks umbrella they would get solid vets to play along with Vancouver prospects. Guys that could score and defend very well. Brad Moran, Lee Goren, Josh Green, and Jason Krog come to mind. These days the only vet players they acquire are ones they intend to call up like Toninato or Axelsson-Fjallby. The kids may need ice time however you need guys who know how to win/score/defend to teach them the way. Once the call ups happen it leaves giant holes. Couple that with major injuries they have seen and the extreme lack of goaltending this year we get what we have.
This isn’t any disrespect to guys like Jones or Oligny. They need to go back to what works in the A. Hershey is the best example, great combination of youth and vets. Graduated many to the NHL and always develop solid goaltending.

I wonder if promoting papa Dubois to Head Coach is in the cards. That said with slightly better goaltending, no one is talking about the Moose being bad... kinda surprising how inconsistent Delia has been considering he was in the NHL last season.

This actually makes me think it's more about our defensive structure than poor goaltending. Delia looked good in Jets preseason. Milic is a solid prospect and playing well in the ECHL. However we now see every goalie who suits up for the Moose hovers around .870 save percentage. Something stinks there. I have a hard time blaming the individual goalies and I think there is a larger issue at play.

Those are vouchers, correct? Depending on how you bought them, aren’t there instructions for redeeming those items?

For those of you, for some inexplicable reason, that may not want to watch Leafs vs. Jets, and instead want to watch Moose vs. IceHogs.

I am genuinely curious as to who, other than maybe the parents of the Moose players, would opt to watch Moose/IceHogs over Jets/Leafs...

Heinola has had a few iffy plays tonight, but the team looks so much better having a defenseman that can actually make a tape to tape pass and execute a breakout. Prior to Heinola being back the most effective way the Moose broke out was by Lambert or Chibrikov dropping back and breaking out for the defense.

Heinola scores in the final minute but Moose lose 2-1. Delia came up huge multiple times but he reminds me of Pavelec, poor rebound control and puts himself in situations where he needs to make a huge save.

In the first period there were at least 3 separate times where Capobianco made a pass that was 5+ feet away from his intended target, on the first one it put Bongiovanni in a bad spot and he took a penalty which resulted in the first goal against.

Second goal against was Reichel flipping the puck to neutral ice, and then everybody on the ice figured it was a good time to change. It wasn't.

Heinola was involved in pretty much all of the best chances that the Moose had but made some mistakes in the defensive zone. Without re-watching I'm not sure how much of that was on him. You can only do so much when you have no outs and that's been an issue for the Moose all year.

Moose set franchise record for losing streak with 10th straight (0-9-1):

Did colour tnt so didn't get a chance to clip much (really only other thing worthwhile were the three Grade A saves by Delia).

Good job on the call last night btw, I only listened to the third period, but I thought it sounded like you

Moose haven't won a game in a month. Yikes
I was at the game last night (might post a full recap later tonight) and they’re just horrible.

Defence that can’t break the puck out of their zone if their life depended on it, James Wrighterian offensive chops for basically everyone on the team other than Chibrikov, Lambert, and Mallot, and an offensive system that is both too simplistic that the other team can read it perfectly and too complex that the players can’t execute it well.

Honestly the best breakouts they have is when Chibrikov or Lambert goes deep in the defensive zone and breaks it out for them.

In defense of the defense when it comes to breakouts, most of the wingers sit far too high on the boards and make it super easy for the opposing defence to step up on them and keep the puck in.
