Some will head to the ECHL.

Sure - but that doesn't explain why Moose are collecting so many. Moose are not responsible for stocking the roster of an ECHL team. Few players who get more than a cup of coffee in the ECHL become AHL regulars, much less ever making it to the NHL.

Have you ever seen the Moose collect so many players at 1 position before? I could guess that it is somehow a move to ensure system depth, but those signed to AHL contracts aren't even eligible for call-up to the Jets. Seems strange.

The Moose are as responsible for filling the roster of an ECHL team as the Jets are for filling the roster of an AHL team. Whatever importance you place on those things is your own opinion, but the coast is a development league for the AHL.

I realize that, though I wouldn't put it that way. In past years the Moose have had only a very few players under contract to them or the Jets playing in the ECHL. The relationship with an ECHL team seems to be that the ECHL team will host a few players from the NHL organization. I wouldn't call it a responsibility to fill a roster. Affiliation seems to change every season. This is beginning to look like a lot of Dmen under AHL or NHL contracts playing with an ECHL team. Do we even know which ECHL team it will be this year?

It would actually appear that they don't have one after the Icemen joined up with the Rangers organization last season. There are some vacancies in the league though I imagine they'll spread players around and loan them to various ECHL teams for depth callups if and when the Jets call up players.

Yeah, depth for the Moose when Moose players are called up.

But they are signing a lot of Dmen. Meanwhile the Moose don't have many F.

Probably just remembering (and maybe a little overreacting to) what happened last year. There was one point where every one of their top 6 defensemen were either injured or up with the Jets. Right around when Chisholm played and Gawanke was in the press box.
