Heinola just had a gorgeous power play assist to tie the game at 3 with ~10 minutes left.

And Samberg makes a nice play to set up Maier for a fortunate goal, 4-3 with 9:30 left.

I'm more impressed with Eyssimont at this level than I've ever been with Reichel or Suess.

Moose are being mauled but the refs aren't calling anything while they're up by 1.

Refs look away on a blatant hook, puck stays in the zone, Texas ties 4-4 with a minute left.

EGLE SCORES WITH A SECOND LEFT! Suck it refs.

As well as Cormier played he probably wants that second Grand Rapids goal back which tied the game.

In the end a miscommunication late in OT gave the Griffins the win. Manitoba is now to 19-9-2-1 on season. Manitoba has points in four straight games and they are 5-0-1-1 in their last seven. Re-match goes tomorrow night in Grand Rapids.

AHL has a free preview today for anyone who wants to watch some hockey. And about 4 or 5 of our prospects.

Gawanke ties it at 1 with a cannon.

Gawanke and Holm deserve stars for this game. Gawanke has been great both sides of the ice, including on the penalty kill.

Moose win in the shootout despite a penalty parade including an unsportsmanlike to Malott in overtime after he got upset with the ref for not calling a Griffins players literally dragging behind with Malott's jersey in his hand.

That's awesome. If they can have 250 fans then they might as well let in 250 fans... it's money for the club and there's no question that there are that many people interested in going.

The only thing that rubs me the wrong way here is the province's public health rules that don't take into account the size of the venue. It's a limit of 250 fans whether you're talking a Winnipeg Freeze game at Dakota or a Manitoba Moose game at CLC. 250 fans at Dakota would feel pretty snug, but 250 at the big arena is nothing. There are only two really big arenas in Manitoba, CLC and Keystone Centre. Why not just single them out and let them have, say, 1,000 max?

It isn't just 250 anywhere. It is 50% up to 250 max.

But there are always going to be issues of inequity with things like this. They can't fine tune all of the measures to get everything perfectly balanced. Being short term, I don't think they try that hard to get everything perfect.

I'm wondering why not just make it 50% everywhere, but I suspect they are thinking of 7500 people coming and going to the CLC and moving around inside. Other than that, I don't see it.

The MB Gov has officially surrendered and said every man (or woman) for himself, so I expect these restrictions to be lifted at the end of the month anyway.

I still think the Moose should build a smaller arena in the Winnipeg suburbs and leave the downtown arena to the Jets.

The fact that Canada Life Centre hosts both the Jets and Moose limits how many non-hockey events can take place there during hockey season.

There is a finitety to the number of arena-sized touring events that would potentially come to markets like ours.
The Moose actually helps create more event nights than would normally occur solely with an NHL tenant.

It is more event nights, but with 3000 people in the CLC, it hardly pays to turn the lights on.

3,000 at $25 a pop on average is still $75,000. I'm sure the F&B plus whatever else pushes that up to over $100,000.

I'm sure TNSE would like that 3,000 to be more like 5,000, but even at 3,000 it's still real money.

I think I read somewhere that the Jets require the moose attendance to be somewhere around the high 3000s / close to 4000 to break even with the moose.

With cost saving factors and benefits of the Moose playing out of the same city as the parent club…… I think the Moose will fo fine here when Covid rules relax!
