3,000 at $25 a pop on average is still $75,000. I'm sure the F&B plus whatever else pushes that up to over $100,000.

I'm sure TNSE would like that 3,000 to be more like 5,000, but even at 3,000 it's still real money.

Sure. But 3k x 40 is only 120K for the season. Just 8 concerts with 16k exceeds that total by 8k and probably at 75$ a pop. Considering the price per seat, they are ahead at only 4 events in those time slots.

Meanwhile a 5k capacity arena could probably find quite a few smaller events to host other than Moose hockey. IDK if it would justify the investment or not. That is beyond my pay scale.

Yeah, that's fair. I guess TNSE certainly knows whether it's worth it to have the Moose taking up potential event dates, someone (Mick E. Moose or Benny?) has done the math to figure it all out.

I still think the Moose should build a smaller arena in the Winnipeg suburbs and leave the downtown arena to the Jets.

The fact that Canada Life Centre hosts both the Jets and Moose limits how many non-hockey events can take place there during hockey season.

It would be nice if they could share it with the Winnipeg ICE.

It is all the same company. TNSE owns the Jets the Moose and Canada Life Centre. No doubt they would have run any cost benefit analysis of having a 2nd 5000 seat arena.

Arenas main goal is to be in operation as much as possible. The Jets Moose plus concerts etc... isn't it one of the top venues or was prior to 2020 really?

Used about as much as it can be.

Odd thing to suggest a 5000 seat rink during a 2 year pandemic. But outside of the 40 or so Moose home games... nobody would use the other rink cuz it's 2 small. The ice and true North are not the same thing. 5000 seats for hockey = less for concerts due to stage set up. Who runs 5000 seat or less arenas? Nobody.

Small cities and suburbs are full of these so-called smaller arenas, since they serve their communities with sports and events, but also at a level that will appropriate serve the demand of the population. Also, that's the CHL's bread and butter.

If that group that owns the Ice were to put up an arena in that size range, they might be able to make it pay by making a deal with TNSE to move the Moose there. I can see why TNSE would not be interested in that investment themselves, but if they can make money by freeing up those 40+ dates, everybody wins.

Another HUGE win by an undermanned Moose club as they defeat the AHL leading Wolves (for the second straight day). Final score is 3-1 for the home side (outshot 41-23). Manitoba improved to 22-10-2-1 on the season. They are five points back of Chicago in 1st.

What's remarkable is there wasn't a single Jets prospect at forward last game. Though quite a few on defense. The goalie was Desrosiers.

Right now with Covid, taxi squads, and injuries this is a mish-mash team of guys trying to play their way up from the ECHL, from the Newfoundland Growlers, and some other ECHL outposts, some tryouts and some legit defensive prospects from the Jets. I think that hunger for guys to get to the next level is probably the biggest motivator on this team right now, but it's working on the basis of solid goaltending and finding ways to win. I wonder if any players from the Moose earn two way contracts for their efforts. Cole Maier has emerged as a leader on this team.

Mark Morrison trying to make a case for the Jets head coach job?
Doing quite the job isn’t he. As an aside, when I have injuries to my team, I, as a coach never blink an eye and love the challenge. Next man up is a real thing and I love to see the Moose not miss a beat with all that adversity. Kudos to coach. His confidence must rub off on the team.

Earlier in the season, when they had all of the horses, they were widely outshooting the opposition game after game. Win some, lose some, winning more but largely depending on goaltending. Now, they are being outshot quite consistently but are still winning. They have been getting very good goaltending from the 2 guys they picked up off of the scrap heap and are getting 'timely goals'.

Not only are they missing all of the legit prospect F and the 2 best Dmen, they are also missing the AHL vet F who was leading the team in scoring in Poganski. Amazing really.

There was one Jets' prospect at forward, easy to miss it though because it was Nogier.

Yeah that was crazy. I mean I rarely miss a Moose game, even if it's a quick eyeball unless I'm really stretch thin and I have really had to work lately to work out who the hell is on the ice. And yet they still play their arses off and they still compete and they still win.

I've said before that the Jets might learn something by sitting in on some Moose games -- well, maybe they already do -- and getting a sense of just how hard even an average or undermanned team can work in order to will itself to be competitive.
