It's a common theme with this team though. I think we're all eager.... desperate... to see changes in attitude, work ethic, etc. And slow starts seem all too familiar.

And yeah, Cambpell looks great. I think he's underrated at this point. He put on a clinic to close out the regular season last year. And yeah, we all remember the bad goal in game 7... but he was amazing overall during the playoffs.
I mean we were literally the best 1st period team in the league last year lol it is one bad start.

Tavares has been pretty good. Drew a penalty with his strong boardplay and good on the dot (86%).

Leafs were trying way too hard to push at the start and the Habs took advantage. Had nothing to do with energy or work ethic, just have to play it smart and not let the emotion of the first game get to you.

It's a concern for sure but he looked good in preseason. Never gonna get any faster but he can still be a great puckhound and has great hands.

I'd say JT has quite a few great games left in him as a leaf.

Him and Nylander hasn't worked like he did with Marner
Nylander doens't play a heavy game, something Tavares does, especially along the boards

I have been saying it for a year, he needs a big body who can do some dirty work along the boards

We are not playing to his strength. That's not his fault, it's our coaches

Of course they give up chances. Just look remotely prepared is all I ask. Pretend you arrived at the stadium in time and warmed up.

I understand the sentiment but I think we make too much of it.

What does it matter if it's the first 5 minutes or a 5 minute stretch in the second period?

Montreal will have the puck for 25 mins and end up with 20+ shots on net throughout the game. They survived the jump and took over the period. Now come out and do it again.

The Leafs needs to start on time.
If Andersen was in net, the game would have been over for us.
Dermott and Sandin is a scary pairing. Dermott seemed lost and he got lucky a few times in the Dzone.
Kase is really good, hope he stays healthy.

Other than the ugly start, we bounced back and looked like the better team. As we should be.

The first 10 minutes were pretty brutal, but we started to settle down a bit after that.

Season opener in front of home crowd for the first time in 18 months, against your oldest rival, that happened to embarrass you in your latest playoff failure.

And you STILL come out flat.....is there a learning disorder here?
