But isn't the roster already the most perfect and bestest roster ever?
It most absolutely is. You say that with how we demolished a very good Devils and Wild teams is our last two starts, despite injuries, and still build chemistry.

I don't know about that, but Mitts is smart enough to lean defense, and make outlet passes so Drouin and Nuke can push the pace. I also see Mitts trusting he's going to have outlets when holding onto the puck.

It's subtle, and needs to continue to improve, but with Nuke he's looked better more consistently, and that line is spending extended time in the Ozone.
This is the thing....give him time, he'll blossom. Well said mate

I was ust going to say I think if they take a swing it'll be for Nelson. I honestly think with Blackwood the D will be okay if they all play to their capabilities (maybe a big IF)

Nelson really solidifies the forwards and allows Mitts to slide down to a more sheltered role to hopefully add some secondary scoring with Colton.

You’ve mentioned Mitts and Colton being on the roster after they add Nelson. Who is going the other way for Nelson?

I'm surprised anyone ever thought otherwise TBH. I didn't think we were ever adding 2 new dmen without shipping one out.

Kylington has shown flashes and Manson is usually a playoff beast, so I don't think it's as much doom and gloom as you and Kingslayer are suggesting. That's why Jones was such a big miss though.

But we definitely aren't winning anything with a Mitts-Drury 2C & 3C. IMO we could afford to add 2 more top 9 forwards while shipping one out (cough Wood). Plus there's plenty of those out there.

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehks - extra C (Gourde) - Necas
Colton - Mitts - scoring F
Kivi - Drury - LOC
Vesey, Kelly

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Lindgren - Malinski/Kylington

I thought Malinski would be the one shipped out. I thought he could have a better season this year, and so far he has, but I still thought the Avs wouldn't totally trust him in the playoffs. Perfect example why is how he got blown up with the puck behind the net last game.

Two D men is what they needed ideally. A 3RD and a 5/6LD. They got one of those at least.

I actually like how Kylington has played lately, and maybe he can continue to build on that, but if you're really going for the Cup, he's a 7/8 because he hasn't played enough games on the team to prove himself.

The Avs won in 22 becasue they committed to improving the defense, even to the point where it was probably better than it is now, but they STILL added Manson on top of that, and he played a big role.

Doing so much less this year on D, when the needs are clearly there, would feel like the Eller year where they didn't make big moves because they didn't think they could win.

But they should feel like they could win this year. Nate is playing outstanding hockey. Necas looks great. They've finally gotten reliable goaltending. Val and Lehky are back and playing great. Drouin has consistently played great two way hockey. Toews has been much better. Girard has played well for the most part. They've got lots of 3C options. They're relatively healthy for once heading into the playoffs (knock on wood).

This is the year they should be making aggressive moves to win. More so than recent years IMO.

Didn’t the Avs win the division during the Eller year? The illusion that presented might have been a big problem.

What are the fLames smoking with that -21 goal differential? They're not doing shit even if they make the playoffs. Give us Kadri back you clowns.
It’s been said before, what’s happening in Winnipeg has really scared a lot of teams into not rebuilding. Also, the Flames just refuse to do so.

Ritchie, likely. I don't think we'd need to move a forward out. I think we go back to 7D come playoff time.

@Richard88 I watched the presser and didn't catch where CMac said he's only doing one more move. I'd be kind of surprised after being so active just to see one more move (unless it included multiple players). Even if it's just like some minor league deal I'd expect 2 at least.

I think we will add one more depth d-man(RD) and one depth center
Sounds about right but let's face it their playoff odds hardly change whether they make those moves or not. Too much matching up teams going on in here, playoffs are just a weird beast of puck luck, injury luck and finding goals at the right time. It's extremely rare where it's thank goodness they got that deep depth piece.

All I know is we have Blackwood going into the playoffs this time around. Everyone thinks it's the same result incoming isn't thinking of how things change when you have a guy you trust instead of 4giev or even Kuemper.

Yeah, but that team limped into the playoffs because they were decimated with injuries. Plus they likely knew Val wasn't totally committed that year, and he ended up leaving the team after the Seattle incident.

Even some of the guys that played in the playoffs were really banged up.

Manson only played five games because he played with that nagging groin injury, that turned into an oblique and QL abdominal tear.

Lehky played with that badly broken finger, then broke his toe in the playoffs, and I think had a jacked up shoulder too.

Helm missed most of that year with abdominal surgery. Then came back and still wasn't healthy. Missed the last 7 regular season games, then played the first playoff game, then missed the last 5.

Cogs missed the last regular season game and first two playoff games with I believe a shoulder injury, even before he broke his neck. Other guys were playing hurt too.

That was also the year MacKinnon said he knew Landy wasn't coming back for the playoffs. I think they knew that wasn't the year to go all in on trades.

2022-23 Games Played

MacKinnon - 71
Lehkonen - 64
EJ - 63
Makar - 60
Nuke - 53
Byram - 42
Manson - 27
JJ - 25
Helm - 11

I'm not sure where he said itd but to me it seemed like he was alluding to making one more move. We'll see...

Well, Compher also turned into a pumpkin immediately after the deadline as I recall. They can say it wasnt the year to go for it. But it’s kind of a self fulfilling prophecy when you go into the season with the roster that they had.

Yeah, it was a brutal year for injuries but they still finished first. You can make a case that’s even more of a reason to add.

Why would you do that though? Mack has been out producing McDavid last couple of seasons and he has a cup. If anything, Oilers would have to add
I wouldnt do it im saying thats what the Oilers would ask for if the Avs want McDavid. If the shoe was on the other foot and the Oilers wanted Mackinnon the ask from the Avs is going to be McDavid. Point is everyone is for sale its just what are you willing to give up to do it.

There is a rumor Flames are interested in Carlo, which means they’re buyers and not sellers. Just forget about getting Kadri. Also to remind, they actually said Kadri isn’t available. Not sure why we keep bringing his name up for a trade

If the Flames have a better deadline than the Avs that's going to be very disappointing.
