As happy as I approve of the way BG handled all this, those of you claiming PH Subban doesn't "deserve" more than the contract he just signed are beyond insane. Subban will not be overpayed when he gets Price-like money in two years, assuming ofcourse that he doesn't have setbacks.

Wait, people already dislike Bergevin? All he has done is good moves and people have something against him? No one even knows what happens behind closed doors, how he conducts himself with players and coaches, you don't even know how these negotiations went until you heard a small leak about the offer.

For all you know, Bergevin handled the negotiations brilliantly and both sides really are satisfied. After all, he got one of the best deals you could get, how can you NOT be impressed with Bergevin? Some of you are ridiculous. I'm just so excited Subban is back, but equally impressed by the amazing contract he accepted.

What if it didn't blow up? Oh wait, that's what happened! Clearly, Bergevin was very tactful here, he made sure not to make Subban bitter while offering him that contract and it worked. He was wise enough in his approach to have accomplished just that. So why talk about useless "what ifs"?

Your questions about Bergevin could be asked about Subban too. Difference is, I don't see the point in whining about it. We are 3-1, there is no bad blood between the two, etc. This is good for the team. Since I am a Canadiens fan first, I for one will be happy about it.

As for Bergevin having to prove himself, well he has, ask Molson, that's why he hired him. He wouldn't have been hired if Molson and (judging by the polls and comments on the board during the search)the large majority of the fans didn't think he was the man for the job. Don't make that comment anymore than it was.

The team is off to a good start. Pk is signed and happy. Bergevin has signed PK to a cheap deal and is happy. Pk will make Price-like money in two years and BG will be prepared for it...why the whining!?

You guys whine no matter what, pathetic.

I agree about the whinning. But for discussions sake, I am not a PK fan, never have been (unless he is delivering hit's that look like a smart car being hit by an 18 wheeler I.E. Brad Marchand)

I think this is a bad signing. PK no longer fit's into our teams image. What PK does an agitator actually motivates teams to play better against us. He has a bad rep with veterans, which makes them want to beat us more. In short in my opinion he brings a weaker team image, and creates more desire to want to beat our team.

He is bad in the locker room with his larger than life personality, in short and simple, he makes the other players not feel as "special". example gorges feels good now, recently scored, playing well. Once PK hits that line with gorges it will be PK's line, gorges will be overshadowed and at the same time feel animosity to be overshadowed by a player who is essentially a rookie and has a cocky attitude. These inner team chemistry's can't be overlooked as they are very real, and in that sense I do think we should have brought in someone more humble. Galchenyuk fits right in, because even though in natural skill he may be better than alot of the habs he is extremely modest.

Prediction, hab's will loose a couple straight as soon as p.k. hits the lineup.

Go look at the ten pages of debate...

Thank you.

This will all be forgotten by us (though probably not by PK) within a day. We'll just be happy to see him playing again. And then the next contract negotiation will come up. Hopefully next time it's not ten pages of him holding out... :)

Lol for sure, I am pretty certain that the next contract won't be anything like this. I imagine that it will be done with fairly quickly. I also expect them to start negotiating the next contract later this year.

Threads, not pages.:sarcasm:

You are still one helluva good poster here though LG.:)
At the end of the day... despite all the disagreements. Despite all the airmchair quarterbacking... we are all fans of the same team.

Sometimes we need to remember this.

What is your proof? - I can tell you that Carey Price isn't a team player and you wont believe me because there is no proof. So what is your proof?

They whine when they overpay a player. Reasonable.

They whine when they sign a great player for cheap, even though the player is not bitter about it.:shakehead

I would completely understand people whining about it all if Subban was unhappy, but the guy went out of his way to express just the opposite. The GM is happy, the player is happy, the contract is cheap. Why the nonsense?

What you should be looking for is people, the same people, who changed their mind before and after. That's who you should be referring to. If you find people who bashed Bergevin because he was giving a ridiculous offer and then praise him after...well bash those posters. But there are some people who didn't have a problem with Bergevin's offers. And there were others, like me, who had problems with it.

The nonsense? Well that's because if PK would have been happy with that, he would have signed earlier. PK HAD NO CHOICE, NO LEVERAGE. So the problem doesn't reside in that for me. He resides in the fact that we surely could have signed him long term in the long run for less money that he will be commanding in 2 years. This signature is too short term for me. 'Cause I do believe PK will ask for major overpayment soon. And that's IF he really is honest in him wanting to stay here.

'Cause let's face it. It's really funny to read people talking about how dedicated he is to this team and so on. People....this is not the time to mention this. Can we just wait till he has some leverage before making those assumptions?

It's great for us short term, we have PK this year, we have PK next year at a smaller price with the cap going down. But that's it so far.

I know, it's the dumbest thing I've ever witnessed. 4 games into the season and certain people dislike him. Can't please everyone I guess:shakehead
I don't think people dislike him. I think there are a lot of us who felt that he mishandled this though...

I still think he'll be a huge improvement over PG.

If PK had demanded a trade today? Yeah, I think it would be fair to say that I'd dislike him...

Feels bad for him actually.

He's almost playing for free with the escrow and the taxe in quebec.

yea.. that's exactly what he's doing. :shakehead

Next time i'm offered a job for 2.8 Million a year I'm gonna tell em **** off. It's inhumane.

You still get the escrow money, it's not money you lose.. you just might not get 100% of it.

Taxes are taxes, it's not that bad.. not to mention subban gets ad revenue playing in a big market being a popular player

It's really pathetic how some people are already looking for drama, and something to whine about. I am nothing but impressed with how Bergevin has conducted himself.

How could you figure he mishandled it though? What do you even know about the negotiations? How in the world does a GM mishandle anything when he gets the best young defenseman on the team signed to an amazing contract?

That's amazing negotiation tactics by Bergevin, if anything. He got the results we wanted, and probably better. Everything he has done thus far has been the right move for the team as a whole now, and in the future.

For those who are thinking Pk is not paid enough, just calcuate your own salary compared to his.

It will probabyly take you a lifetime or two to receive what is gonna get in a year and a half.

Get real.

seriously, dumbest argument in, like, ever... :teenagegirl:

im not a world-class athlete. nobody here is. ****, nobody here is a world-class anything (althought some of us might land in the world-class ******* category, yours truly included). he gets paid what the market demands.

think a janitor should be paid the same as a teacher too? the janitor probably only makes a third of what the teacher makes! it'll take the sanitary expert years to make up the difference in wage! and that's only a fraction of what chinese workers make sewing soccer balls with their teeth! everybody go on strike!
NOOOOOoooooooooooo.....

im happy, **** ya'll

Woah. I completely disagree with you dude. Pk thrives under the hate he gets from opponents. And I don't think teams play better against us because of him, if anything, they play worse since their hate towards PK leads often distracts them, and many times leads to PP opportunities. I remember Pk thriving in that Boston series, he was amazing. But even if teams played better against us because of PK, who cares? That's usually a good thing.

Also, I am sure that Pk's teammates would like for him to mature in some ways, ofcourse they would, he is still a young guy, even Price had to mature, and is still maturing. But I don't buy the idea that his team-mates dislike him or anything. This team is better with PK, everyone knows this, including his teammates, the coaches, and Bergevin.

Dude, Bouillon is a third pairing guy. Emelin has shown he can handle even top pairing minutes, and deserves it. In my opinion it should be:

Markov-Emelin
Gorges-Subban
Diaz-Bouillon

Bang on, see my post above! However Subban and Gorgeous will be top ES pair, resting Marky and limiting risk with Emelin, who is still after all a second year player, though older.

ES will be:

Gorgeous-Subban +- 18 M
Markov-Emelin +- 16 M
Diaz-Bouillon +- 10 M

Too good a D to play Kaberle or Weber!
