My take is that Bergevin didn't want Subban to enter the room "avec ses grands sabots". Good news. Subban was a Habs fan growing up. He'll learn from this and he'll earn his next contract.

Would have liked to watch the team a while longer without PK to see if they could keep up the momentum they have built. Not convinced this signing will help the 'team' but hope it works out for a great franchise.

If I was Meehan, I would not have recommended to sign this contract. Subban's worth alot more. He's getting really short-changed. I hope the fans in Montreal can recognize that this is the mother of all hometown discounts...

Not saying he's a bitter player, but I certainly wouldn't blame him if he had a bit of bitterness when thinking of the business side of the game, and realize he's not making close to what he's truly worth.

But honestly, he'll get a nice cash in from us in 2 years. Hopefully not too big of a cash in though. ;)

I think Subban understands, he's a smart kid. I think he's smart enough to avoid holding a grudge, but also smart enough to remember to cash in off this next time.

But I also think he really wants to be a Canadien de Montréal, and that's where we are lucky.

Simple. We could have inked him to a similar contract Edler is now sporting (6/30M) whereas now he will look to cash in around Karlson or Doughty money and have all the leverage in the world to say, "Either pay me or I'll find another team who will."

Why would PK sign that? He and around 90% of the city haver full confidence that in 4-6 years he's going to be well worth over 5 mil. Remember, he's banking on his future right now. If he has the leverage to ask for Doughty/Karlsson money, chances are he deserves it and should be paid it.

Congrats. Excellent deal. For those of you who haven't already, don't go on the Trade Board's thread on this. Apparently Subban is now overpaid and/or the NHLPA should file a grievance because he's also way too underpaid.

So you would suggest to your player - take 4 million, even though you'll be worth 5-6 in two years?

PK never struck me as someone who would ever act bitter in this type of situation...

For those who are thinking PK is underpaid...

Next year , PK will receive 3,750 in paychecks while Kris Letang will receive 3,5.

Bergevin also said he is not one to look at the past and that this process is over and is now looking forward to having PK integrate into the team.

It's actually not a bad contract. He gets 2m pro rated for the rest of the year, but 3.75 next season. That's around the average I'd have said he should get. Good compromise.
