Habs are really bad. The Rangers were pretty much a dead solid lock tonight.
I liked Kampfer’s game. I’d eventually have him and Staal rotating in-and-out, maybe.
Kampfer seemed to me to do everything nicely. Hit, made quick decisions with the puck, was noticeable.
I did not like how Weber targeted Buchnevich, skated all the way across the ice, and delivered a massive cross-check to the back of an unsuspecting Buchnevich. And with a ref watching.
Horse shit.

Horse ****.

That's Weber. I'm not surprised.

He really didn't. He looked at best, the same.

The difference is Hank made 44 saves tonight and made like two last night.
It's amazing what the reactions towards the game are when the goalie plays great compared to when he plays like he lit his eyeballs on fire before the game.

Seriously. He’s also a kid with tremendous upside who should be in the lineup.

Holden made similar horrible turnovers tonight, Hank bailed him out though.

Kampfer looks like an AHL player struggling to keep up. Him getting nhl minutes over Smith and DeAngelo is utterly baffling.

But it's not baffling. It's only 1 game so far, and Smith + DeAngelo were utter garbo. AV is trying to nip it in the bud early. It's a message to play well...play responsibly...or you won't be in the line-up every night. Simple as that.

Hopefully Smith and DeAngelo are motivated now.

He looked better than Smith did last night, so what does that say about Smith?
That smith had a bad game. Does that not happen? Smith was awful last light, that doesn’t mean that Kampfer or Holden should be in the lineup over him.

Unless AV all of the sudden is starting to hold his veterans accountable after an entire career of not doing so, then I’m fine with this.

If he’s going to stick with Holden-Kampfer as the 3rd pair and not give DeAngelo a fair shake then I’m very much not okay with it.

I agree. I'm not seeing the same thing most others are when they say Kampfer looks like an AHLer struggling to keep up. I'm honestly shocked that he hasn't found a stable NHL lineup spot given his handedness and mobility.

ADA is the long term solution, and should be given some leash to work himself out, but I'm fine with Kampfer being there to push him.

Only thing that really bothers me about that is AV going back to his guys who struggled mightily last season

Smith and the young guys struggled some in the first two games. Trying to do too much. Skjei is a bit all over like he's trying to be overconfident and do it all. McDonagh has gone through some years doing that as well at the start of a season.

If AV sits them for his vets indefinitely it'll be an issue in the long run.

Usually because those guys look good in short streaks but break down with lots of issues if they play a regular stretch.

The first period the Rangers still struggled with their puck support. Too many guys following the puck and not anticipating where to go once a teammate recovers it. Particularly, this is a problem on dump-ins.

They got much better with it the rest of the game though.

This is fine, but doesn't explain the criticism after a single game like tonight. He looks like an NHLer to me.

Dunno, didn't watch him so closely that I have any strong opinions, just saying. Seems like guys like Kampfer are good fill ins because they can step in and produce like a NHLer, but they struggle with consistency as regulars. IF he had a good game then hey, good thing for him.

It's amazing what the reactions towards the game are when the goalie plays great compared to when he plays like he lit his eyeballs on fire before the game.

Benoit Allaire seemed to think the 1st period against Toronto was a complete breakdown of the team in front of Hank, and not his fault.

It’s amazing how some fans aren’t able to actually see the reality of what actually happens in a game.

Right, my only issue with our forward lineup is that even when Fast returns, Paul Carey is still in the lineup. He's not an NHl'er, does nothing to help the team.

I'd try out Nieves instead, he brings speed and PK'ing. If he's not good enough, go 7D, double shift forwards like we did today. I like that much better than having essentially a useless player like Carey.

I like Carey. Great motor and nice skills. Just because he’s not well-known doesn’t necessarily make him useless. He may be a late bloomer.

So let me see if I got this right. The King doesn't need to retire afterall after tonight's performance?

I was told after the Leafs game that Hank was done.....go friggen figure.

I was also told by some of my brothers in here after last night combined with the loss to the Avalanche, that Rangers season was pretty much over and that we were going to be battling it out with Red Wings,Devils and Sabres of the world for one of the top picks in next years draft.

You mean things have changed now after tonight's shutout win? We aren't so horrible afterall after 3 games of a 82 game season?

Color me shocked at this change of opinions in here from some of the Debbie Downers.....lol. Obviously being a tad sarcastic but you guys have to admit the fickleness of our fan base after just 3 games is laugh out loud hilarious.

Newsflash for the Doubting Thomas's: Rangers team and Hank are going to be just fine. Nothing has changed at least in my view that this team is awfully talented quite a bit more than last years team and our opposition and their fan bases are going to say to themselves when they play us...."crap...we gotta play the f***ing Rangers. This is going to be a tough one for us to win"....:)

A goalie coach and former goalie thinks it wasn't the goalies fault

I kind of want there to be a special Level Headed room for people to discuss each game.
