Everyone being so "polite" about this proposal. Its idiotic.

I wouldn't trade either one for Petry. A budding star and Sandin are each worth more than Petry. Jesus.

I created an account to point how idiotic this trade is, I would at Maximum trade one of the mentioned for Petry, and even then I'd be reluctant... but both?! That's pretty rich! I didn't realize Toronto was trying to help out the Habs these days.

No from Leafs pretty easily.

I wouldn’t trade Kap 1/1 but maybe something along the lines of Sandin and a pick

I agree it is too much. Sandin + 1st + Bracco + Horton’s contract
Leafs won't pay to move Horton's contract...it isn't an issue.

If the Leafs were looking at trading for Petry, i would think it would be picks based...something like 1st+2nd+B prospect. Probably not enough, but i doubt Sandin or Kapanen are offered for a 31 year old. (And certainly not both)

These 2 teams don't fit for a trade, Montreal is in a playoff spot, Toronto needs to target teams looking for picks in exchange for D.

Petry and Tanev are now interchangeable on these forums...Not surprisingly, the answer is still the same for both which will be helpful when filtering for quality trade discussions.

The Leafs are far more interested in a trade that look like this

1st 2019
2nd 2020
Prospect
Lower pics of need be

For your RHD

And it's far more reasonable than HF people think. In no way are the Leafs going to trade two of Sandin and Kaps in a trade for anything less than an elite player coming back.

No doubt those pieces will get you a rental like they do every year.

Travis Hamonic-1st+2nd+2nd....not a rental.
Dougie Hamilton (To Calgary)-1st+2nd+2nd RFA

That's because neither were traded at the TDL. If you want to wait til the off-season to see how GMs reassess their assets...

Polite pass. And why is a playoff contending team trading a top pair D?

Exactly!! Anyway, the more I see Petry play the less I want to trade him. He’s got two more years after this one and he’s too valuable to our fragile D to move him.

You're hilarious OP. I wouldn't trade Sandin alone for Petry.

Understandable. I wouldn’t trade Petry for Sandin straight up either.

I don't think you are going to see Toronto part with their TOP prospects like Sanadin and Liljergen unless it is a BIG trade.

I still think if Justin Faulk is traded he ends up in Toronto because I don't think you need to move Liljergen or Sanadin to get him.

I also think Radko Gudas will be a target

This trade may be idiotic but in what world does a two-way, ~55-60 point RHD who can defend and hit with terms only be worth a late first or a recent (25-31) draft pick? Petry can do it all, only cost 5.5M and is RHD.

And that's because Montreal (apparently) is not in rebuild mode. As i said earlier, Leafs need to target teams looking to move D for futures.

Yes, 2 rivals trading, Yes petry is involve, no clue how both party will react to this, Yes it's kinda a bad timing to do this proposal with Nylander Struggling but he's clearly going to pick it up. Please fully read before posting, Please no salty answers, constructive post only

Petry (15% retained) 4.675M for this current season + 2 extra

I feel very confident saying that there is no chance Dubas considers this. The Leafs are going to need their prospects for cheap depth for prolonged success.
Maybe a 1st + but not either of the guys you suggested.

I mean, it would be incredibly dumb of Leafs MGMT to waste this opportunity and fill up before they have to give insane raises... but OK.
Sure, it would also be incredibly dumb to overpay in a trade. I think the Leafs are looking to upgrade, but Dubas isn't a knee jerk kind of guy. Petry in no way guarantees anything.

I don't see where the overpay is, though... but then, I'd be OK with Suzuki/Poehling+ for an LHD with term right now.
