Bergevin doesn't have to trade. He just has to show up at the game. Get the media rumormill going and have that leaked into the locker room. Might just be the kick in the ass some players need to get producing.

Thoughts?

Avs aren't going to trade Tyson Barrie. He's the only defender on the team that can be counted on putting up points.

Barrie and EJ are our only RHD's. Everyone else, including the next prospect up (Bigras), is LHD. I don't see the Avs trading RHD without one coming back.

I feel it could be more towards Dallas than COL.

Cody Eakins for DD + Scherbak.

Dallas could get rid of Eakins' contract (since Faksa seems to be able to take 3C duties), receives a good prospect (doesn't seem to be a favorite to management).

Downside : they have to find a spot for DD for this year only (or buy him out)

Montreal gets an upgrade for their 3C, but they take the longer contract (not that it's a bad one, but a bit pricey for a 3C).

I would say there is much more likelihood that the Stars and Montreal would be making a deal than the Avs and Montreal.

The Avs and Montreal don't make good trading partners both teams are looking for similar pieces. Most moves between the two would probably be considered lateral at best.

Since Eakin has a knee injury, I don't know how we get from "GM watches Dallas vs Colorado" to "GM trades for Eakin"

Dallas sure could use Carey Price....assuming he can finally find a way to stay healthy. :help:

And, after all those years of Turco, the Stars should be used to having a goalie that can put up great regular season numbers and then struggle in the playoffs. Price would be a perfect fit.

Turco's playoff numbers were actually fairly decent while in Dallas, aside from a few bad runs around the lockout years.

I believe he is still the only goalie in the modern era, to record three shutouts in a series and still lose. Can't really pin the Stars' playoff woes at the time, all on him.

I'd much rather take my chances with Price than roll the dice again with the Stars' two-headed Finnish monster.

How about something along the lines of:

Montreal:

Emelin
Andrighetto
2017 1st

Dallas:

Patrick Sharp

Perspectives:

Montreal gets a solid proven left winger in patrick sharp. Bergevin also has a thing for current or ex hawks players. He's also an awaiting free agent in the summer.

Dallas gets a defender that can slot in on their 2nd or third pairing, a decent prospect capable of 25-40 and a 1st to add to their weaker prospect pool

Value aside, I don't think the cap works on this one. The Hab only have roughly $770,000 in cap space, and this would have them taking on more than $1.7m in additional cap hit (depending on when it happens).

Emelin is awful and Andrighetto has zero value. Ladd got a 1st + Dano, your offer is worth less than a 1st.

No thanks from the Avs

I concur.

Mitchell isn't great, but he's a very serviceable bottom 6 guy, who can fill in on the 2nd line in case of injuries. No reason to trade him for Flynn.

And, Gelinas for Oleksiak is lateral, at best. Neither one is likely to help the Avs anytime soon.
