I've seen it mentioned in some other threads but surprised this isn't a topic on its own. I did read on the Habs board that Bergevin might just be in Denver for some Molson Coors event but I don't buy it. If it was some type of Molson golf tournament during the summer I'd understand but I personally don't think Bergevin would follow Geoff to Denver to shake some hands in the beer business while his team is playing its second game of the season just a short car drive away from home back up north.

I don't know what it could be but speculate away.

There are no trades to be made b/w both teams. Both teams wanna win and likely hold on to their players. The habs are prob looking for a 2nd Line LW and a top 4 LD. Not only do the Avs dont have any LWs other than landy that will be better than Lehkonen, they also dont have any LDs who would slot Markov as the 3rd LD.
Habs arent going after Grigorenko, Beauchemin nor Zadarov

Trades aren't always focused around star players though. You also only mentioned Colorado and Montreal. Could very well be Dallas and Montreal. Could be fourth liners being swapped for all we know. Bergevin most likely wasn't in denver to watch guys like Mackinnon, Seguin, Benn, Duchene and Landeskog.

No way any sane GM would miss a game just to swap fourth liners

Lol what? GM's don't always travel with the team. I stood in an elevator with Bergevin in St. John's last year while the Habs were playing a game in Montreal at that very moment.

Alexei Emelin to Col/Dal?

I don't think Montreal should trade Nathan Beaulieu at all and I'm not so sure that Sergachev is ready, besides... Markov is not very good anymore.

If I'm Montreal I keep Beaulieu and Sergachev who'll make a great combo on the left after Markov retires and you trade Emelin and still have plenty of guys to play 3rd pair like Barberio and Redmond or UFAs.

You have

Beaulieu - Weber
Sergachev - Petry
Markov/Barberio - Pateryn

That's a solid D

Montreal fans, who needs to be protected for dmen?

Obviously Weber, Petry you want to protect... I'm guessing Markov also has a NTC, but does Emelin have a NTC? If they all have NTC then it could explain them trying to trade Beaulieu ibstead of losing him ..

Isn't Iginla good? He got 47 pts last season, and 59 pts the season before that.

No he's a bag of crap. He gets handed gifts from Matt Duchene and has a great shot but is a total buzz kill on the ice. Can't skate, bad defensively, hands like feet. He's great if someone gives him the puck directly on his stick in a prime scoring place. Every other situation in the game he's bad.

I don't really see an obvious fit between Colorado and Montreal. Not a lot of cap space for either team.

Dallas and Montreal could be more plausible as trade partners.

Montreal also has a scout that permanently resides in Denver and attends virtually every Avs home game. Maybe Bergevin was in Denver to see him.

This.

All these stories are SOOOOO speculative and SOOOOOO overblown.

The Boston Terriers were in town to play Denver U this weekend ... maybe he went to see BU goalie Jake Oettinger Friday night and, knowing he'd sit Saturday, thought he'd check out the Avs game instead? We have televisions and DVR's and satellites and lasers and stuff, GM's don't have to fly anywhere to see a kid live. For all we know, Bergevin's nephew got married in Denver Friday night and he stuck around because Denver is a cool city and the weather was great this weekend.

Every Avs fan and employee says hell yes. Unfortunately Iginla likely won't waive

Are you seriouse? Avs fans would do it? I think MTL fans would do that deal yesterday. DD is the most hated hab maybe ever.

My only interest as a Stars fan is for someone to finally take Oleksiak. Or for Carey Price :naughty:

Yup, i'd be happy with the trade and then just send DD down to the minors. A 2nd is the max we'd get for Iginla. Unfortunately, I doubt he'll waive as he's stated he plans on finishing this contract in Denver.

Montreal gets: Eric Gelinas ($1.575M cap hit), 2nd round pick
Colorado gets: Nathan Beaulieu ($1M cap hit)
