Only goal that got past Miller was the pass from below the goal line that deflected in off a defenseman's skate
Not that I'm aware of. The Farmington HS is very near the Lakeville border on the south side. Might be some Lakeville kids in Farmington actually... there's a Lakeville neighborhood in walking distance from the Farmington HS.
Wasn't even aware of that controversy...It was a joke, since two season's ago -before last season- when the coach controversy went down it came out the South squad had 9 open enrollment players (Burnsville, St. Louis, transfer from Gentry, etc) and 4 of them were from Farmington. The quip was that they had more 'recruited' players than Eden Prairie.
Not my concern, but was just a joke about the odds being very high that there's someone to root for from Farmington.
Familiar with the area, when my friend moved to MN he moved to Farmington, until his new house was built in Lakeville.
Wasn't even aware of that controversy...
I have no real attachment to Farmington anyway, other than that's where I bought my house. I grew up in South Minneapolis, moved to New Prague in HS, then moved to Chaska after graduation, lived there for a decade before buying my house in Farmington.
It's just a place to live to me... the HS here ticked off most Farmington residents when it was built, as it was an overpriced boondoggle that then went tens of millions over budget as well and ended up in lawsuits.
No HS should cost $120+ mil. Prior to the lawsuits, they were asking for still MORE money even during construction to build things completely not needed!
A few players here and there move in open enrollment, but that's not causing the rest of the 50+ players that used to tryout for these programs to struggle to get enough to ice a team anymore... it's people moving more than anything.Nice area to live, at least.
From this season, allegedly since I wasn't there but was told at a Rosemount-South game the Rosemount announcer after a South goal said: "Lakeville South goal scored by player from Farmington, assists by Burnsville and Farmington." To kind of sum up what I was getting at earlier.
Also agree with you on demographics change and of course people move but the category is the one I think is overlooked most, open enrollment. Not to debate the merits of it, just solely from a "people move." They don't have to move, people send their kids to other programs now (not for education reasons) rather than kids playing for their community. They play multiple towns over with a better program and the program(s) they left are the ones in trouble, previous, current and in the future. Explains some of them, at least. Especially ones with healthy minor #s but come HS struggle to ice a team because all the good players leave their association to play at/for better HS programs.
See this is kind of apathy and shoulder shrugging I’m talking about. Any smother sport this would be considered a travestyEverything ends, new things begin, new traditions start somewhere else.
You can't stop people from living where they want. The demographic that plays hockey, they have chosen to move away from these communities. It was going to happen eventually.
I remember when Burnsville and Apple Valley were new hockey powers themselves...
In those days people were lamenting the fall of Richfield and Minneapolis South West etc.
Not in Edina. Now why is that?Everything ends, new things begin, new traditions start somewhere else.

No, hockey is not football or basketball where it's easy for anyone to get into the sport late.See this is kind of apathy and shoulder shrugging I’m talking about. Any smother sport this would be considered a travesty
Have you seen property prices in Edina? That's why the demographic hasn't changed. It's not a middle class community. Not in Edina. Now why is that?
Your apathy regarding my community is noted. Put of curiosity, what area did you grow up in?
Right. It would be one thing if the demographic changes were organic, but they most certainly are not organic. They are orchestrated demographic changes, and in the communities where it happens the locals often didn't ask for it.See this is kind of apathy and shoulder shrugging I’m talking about. North St Paul. That doesn't have a high school team anymore. I understand the demographic has changed. Does it suck? Sure. But I can't say that hockey, as a whole, in Minnesota is on the down turn. Not in Edina. Now why is that?

Or maybe they have put their foot down like other communities failed to do. With that said, and this is something I overheard, there are public housing projects in the works for Edina (and Plymouth and Forest Lake), for what it's worth.Have you seen property prices in Edina? Middle class communities are subject to greater change
I disagree.Right. It would be one thing if the demographic changes were organic, but they most certainly are not organic. They are orchestrated demographic changes, and in the communities where it happens the locals often didn't ask for it.
You can't stop people from selling their house and moving across town no matter how much you put your foot down.Or maybe they have put their foot down like other communities failed to do. You can't sell your house anymore! lolYou can't stop people from selling their house and moving across town no matter how much you put your foot down.
But Edina has (until now, I guess). You can't stop people from selling their house and moving across town no matter how much you put your foot down.
You just kind of proved my point.I disagree.
AFAIK, Maplewood, at least where I lived, and NSP decided they wanted to get Government tax breaks, thus implemented more section 8 housing (this is not a knock against it).
Again, the hockey community in Edina is still there because it's driven by the wealthy community in Edina. Not the not so wealthy area by Richfield. But Edina has (until now, I guess).
