Um, the team can't win a single effing round and he's promising a Cup but you can't see the potential for mockery???
What can someone say? "Maple Leaf minority owner optimistic despite not having won a round. Hahaha"? How would that affect anyone else besides Tanenbaum? Where is this potential?

Yes he brought rookie Shanahan in who then brought rookie Dubas in who then brought rookie Keefe in. I doubt that is what Tim L had in mind when he made that statement.
Add it to the list of what could go wrong.
Remember Burke and his “a rebuild doesnt have to take 5 years”.
Now Dubas with we played well and lost so we must be close. And our coach will be a legend in 10 years.

Good times.

I wonder if they changed the President, GM and coach?
The exact quote by MLSE Ceo Tim Leiweke from that link was ... "The Leafs are close," he said. (Oct 29, 2013)

That was back in 2013, just before Brendan Shanahan was hired as President of the Maple Leafs in April of 2014. In the 9 years since that MLSE statement the Leafs haven't won even a single playoff round.

Now part owner Larry Tanenbaun quote "The Leafs are close," he said. (June 2022)

This just seems like cruel and unusual punishment ( describing punishment that is considered unacceptable due to the suffering, pain, or humiliation of it) for being a Leafs fan.

Tim did good things, but I am not sure why Leafs are so hard to manage. Maybe they really cursed? I don’t know. I mean, Raptors got a championship, TFC has one. All thanks to the people Tim brought in initially.

I agree. There’s many variables here. It’s not easy to win in Hockey.

Making smart hockey moves is one of the important variables.

Having a supportive owner at the top who has had recent championship success is not a nothing burger, so to hear Tanenbaum have faith in the process is good for organizational stability. That said, it’s just a child’s game and it’s time to win playoff games, rounds and titles.

Winning the cup is a big step.....winning a round maybe too. I beginning to think Ill be happy with even more respect in the handshake line....maybe a hug or two?

Honour Pride Glory has been replaced by Disappointed, but Hopeful.
Don’t foget the secret ingredient, Love. Everyone in the organization loves each other. Probably the reason they were all gassed up when TB gave some handshake love. Maybe that’s why they keep saying we’re close.

This is EXACTLY correct .. but unfortunately he told us arena sponsors recently that he was very happy with Leaf management and reupped Dubie to end of Shanny's deal .. to me now this falls on Larry .. clearly he does not think getting eliminated in playoffs in round 1 for 6 years straight is a big deal .. and no one of those 100-200 sponsors said a negative word about team .. I didn't either .. I make some sales off of it so it is more of a business decision .. and there is still a huge lineup for tickets so I think we are going to continue to get more of same old same old for next 2 years no matter what happens .. maybe just best to ROI my seat license by selling off my tickets next couple years .. I am pretty down about whole thing now

Exactly. Judging by some comments on this forum how some fans are in love with Dubas/this core, people will keep devoting time and money to this team no matter what. There is no incentive to really improve. They are all content with status quo as was clearly demonstrated in the season end presser. The country club atmosphere is back, IMO.

Obviously regular season success means more to sponsors than playoff success. No denying they are a regular season juggernaut.

If I could like this comment a million times I would. You just hit the nail right on the head when it comes to this Management Group. It's kind of sad to be honest with you.
