David Hess should be pitching in my Friday night softball beer league.

That’s 12 HR in 19 innings vs the Yankees. Damn.

This year he was top ~10 in AL, I would consider that an ace

I like Stroman and he's definitely had a very nice year but he's not really an ace in the club of a deGrom, Scherzer,Verlander, Strasburg, Noah...etc..

Now maybe for the Jays he was an ace I'll grant you that for sure but for the most part, if you really look at Stroman's #'s over the years and what he is, he's more of a #2/3 type and more in the David Price, Mike Clevinger, Paxson type neighborhood. If he's your ace, you probably don't have a very good staff. On the Mets he's slotted perfectly as their #3 if not #4.

would have been alot easier to claim a guy a few weeks ago

Agreed....probably too late to get a Panik as he'll likely get picked up but if there is some way Brodie can do something, he should explore it as he'd be a real nice piece for the playoff run.

Yankees set another record-14 straight wins in an opposing team's ballpark(Camden Yards).4 games of 5+ hr's vs the same team in a single season-also a new MLB record.

Was just thinking about this and at least to me it's kind of funny but this is oh so true but here we sit on August 7th and here's the difference between the Yankees and Mets in a nutshell:

The next meaningful game the Yankees will play in 2019 will be October 2nd when they'll play their 1st playoff game with an opponent that is undetermined at this point in time.

The next meaningful game the Mets will play in 2019 will be tomorrow when they play the Marlins and every single one of the next 47 games after that will be just as meaningful.

You simply can't make this shit up as it's the reality of the situation with our two teams...lol

Plenty to play for the Yankees. Need home field advantage. You don't want to be going to Houston for game 7.

Nimmo is going to miss most of 2020 at this rate. If he ends up needing disc removal surgery there’s normally a 4-6 month period of no activity after. So let’s say he has that in October or maybe next month he’s not able to do anything til February-April and then it’s a good 8-12 weeks til he can even play in rehab games after that. So figure if he has surgery September 1 it’s May at best before he begins playing major league games

I heard a stat a couple of days ago - if I'm not mistaken, the Yanks hit 5+ homers vs the Orioles the last 2 days bring the total to 15 times the Orioles allowed 5+ homers in a game this season. The record used to be 9 and the Orioles have about 50 games left to play.

That's correct. ESPN had an article, maybe it was Jayson Stark, that ran down a bunch of incredible statistics about home runs hit this year. It's kind of stupid, actually, how many home runs are being hit across the league. I enjoy offense, but I enjoy a good pitchers duel as well. I hope they figure out what is up with the balls--I heard they know there is reduced drag, but don't know why--and fix that shit, and get us back to more "normal" levels of homers.

It's actually unbelievable the Mets are where they are with the bullpen they've had this year. With an even average bullpen they could be chasing the Braves. The numbers are just unbelievably awful.

They really need to give a couple of the guys in Cuse a shot. Peterson, Nogosek or Zamora. All have decent numbers in Cuse and I'm not convinced one way or the other by their previous 5 inning try outs here.

I don't get excited over home runs anymore, and that's an issue.

I think they're in the position they're in because the starters are now going deep into the game (I know, the competition is the pits)....if I remember correctly, a good number of games were lost because relievers in the 6-8 innings gave up a ton of runs (I could be wrong, of course -- memory ain't what it used to be).

The biggest change in the pitching overall has been the coach. Everyone went "LOL Mets" when Regan was hired, including most Mets fans, but there has been significant improvement in the staff since he was hired. July and August for the Mets has been a huge contrast to the first 3 months of the season. Both the starters and the relievers are having more success, with the exception of Diaz. Even Familia has a 4 ERA since Eiland was fired.

Wilson, Avilan, and Lugo have been strong. Gsellman has been good. Could they get someone other than Mazza to be there? Sure, but he's pretty much around for mop up duty and long relief.

The competition has not been the same, but it's still an improvement. The next month will see if it was the schedule or if it is improvement.

Yea the starters are definitely pitching better, no doubt.

The Mets have the 4th worst bullpen ERA in MLB. They've blown the most saves. The numbers are all bottom 5 in MLB for bullpen stats.

IIRC, the Mets are the only team to ever blow 8 saves in consecutive months.
