Klopp had a disappointing CV before his Champions League

This is not remotely true. Christ.

He got Mainz promoted to the Bundesliga, kept them up several years despite them being by far the smallest club.

Won 2 Bundesliga titles and 2 domestic cups with Dortmund. Lost a CL final.

You have no argument. You take nothing into consideration for other teams wants when making a trade. You then claim it's a Yankees tax. Entitled fan. This is peak Yankee fan right here. No sense of the direction of the teams around them. I bring up the current Yankees farm as reason why teams want other guys that are either closer to the MLB or guys that are in the MLB.

You don't have **** to get together, so I guess this ends here.

Yeah, since you haven’t read a single word I’ve said this entire time, I’d say it ends here.

Let’s summarize...

- Toronto refused a package including Clint Frazier and others for Stroman.
- Toronto deals Stroman to Mets for 2 middling prospects.
- Mets turned down Frazier and Andujar for Wheeler.
- Mets then wanted Florial and Garcia for Stroman.
- Diamondbacks asked for Frazier and THREE prospects for Ray.
- Diamondbacks dealt Greinke to Houston and didn’t even get Kyle Tucker.

I’ll just let the evidence keep piling up. It’s comical at this point, but Mets fans know everything.

So Arizona is eating a significant chunk, yet Houston didn’t give up their best prospect.

So why is everyone saying it’s a fleecing for Houston?

I don't care what other people are saying. That looks like a pretty fair deal based on the circumstances. He has a 15 team No Trade List so that takes half the league out of it. He also had $77M dollars remaining on his deal which is a lot of money to take on

Ok so then if you don’t care what others are saying, why should your opinion matter then?

So they take on a 3rd of his remaining salary and there’s still a significant market left. We know the Yankees are on his no trade. Doesn’t necessarily eliminate the other contenders because we don’t know who’s on it.

They didn’t get back Houston’s #1 or #2 best prospect. Bad deal for Arizona, yet they’ll ask for the moon for Robbie Ray, who is nowhere as good but has term? Yikes.

Sorry, should have clarified. I mentioned Scherzer and Morton because they were free agents at points. Should have mentioned Corbin too.

Instead of signing secondary pieces to short term deals, why the hell would you not address your biggest need, even if you have to go to the next luxury tax threshold? They’ll make that money back in one season. Getting under the luxury tax was absolutely pointless because they refuse to do anything with it.
Scherzer signed after the 2014 season. Meanwhile the 2015 Yankees had a $222 million payroll and paid another $25 million in luxury taxes.

So it's a bad deal for Arizona....yet they paid 1/3 of his salary down like you said, just to get 'fleeced' on an 'awful' return to spite the lowly New York Yankees by sending him to a likely opponent in the playoffs...and 28 other teams colluded with them in this...Am i doing this right?

That’s part of my point. Back then, this core wasn’t even a thought and the thresholds of the luxury tax didn’t matter. It was about winning. All Yankee fans want is a good balance of the two. The ability to go address a glaring issue but also keep in mind that there are young players to sign.

It’s not about winning anymore with Hal. It’s about saving money long term. He doesn’t want to pay the price for top-end talent. He could have had Machado and Kluber this offseason, but didn’t want to pull the trigger because Machado’s deal was too big for his liking. They never even entertained Corbin and his deal wasn’t even that bad.

George is rolling in his grave right now.

I don’t know, are you?

I mean if I asked for the moon for Robbie Ray and then turned around and ditched my ace for a sub-par package while eating a significant portion of his remaining salary, it would make one think.

Then there’s Mets fans. Little brother knows everything, apparently.

Hal is no George but he was running the show even then, wasn't he? When you run your team like a business you look more and more like the Wilpons, except maybe competent.

Lol, good point, well taken.

George let Cashman run everything in the later part of the previous decade, before he passed away. Hal handled financials, but George obviously wanted to win as Cashman signed CC, Burnett and Teixeira.

Hal adopted this mindset around 2015/2016.

Just remember who signing Tex cost the Yankees. Some people will take the 2009 series over having Mike Trout, but not everyone.

Yeah but you win some, you lose some. They ended up with Aaron Judge. Not saying he’s Trout, but he’s one of the best talents in the game and he won’t be costing over $40 million per year anytime soon.

I’m a Mike Trout fan, but is one guy worth killing your entire payroll for? How are the Angels going to build around him and be able to keep a winning team around him once the young talent they have starts to develop? They’ll have to pay Ohtani eventually as well and they’re a budget team.

This argument reminds me of the “what if the Rangers kept Amonte, Weight and Gartner?” arguments.

I will say one thing though... if the Yankees had their 25th pick at the draft and the Angels have only the 24th pick and not both picks back to back, do they still take Randal Grichuk at 24? Or do they take Trout?

That changes everything.
