The idea is that winning the WC shouldn't be the equivalent of winning the division, which under the old rules it pretty much was.

I'm all for a 2 game series where the lower seed has to win both to advance

Sure, but the Indians who only won 91 games playing garbage all year should be the team that has to win twice.

It should be re-seeded by record. Winning the division is an archaic concept from when there were no playoffs.

The problem is, there is no way to make it equitable until there is a completely balanced schedule.

It's even worse in the NL, where the team with the worst advancing record got to sit home and watch all other teams in the playoffs beat on each other for another day.

And baseball, which has always had the reputation of being the most traditional and fair when it comes to who makes the postseason, has now become the most unfair and most unequitable.

It better not be WiN yOuR DivIsiON

It isn't.

4 days off after regular season. 1 day for tiebreakers. 3-game series between 2 wildcard teams with a team with better record hosting games 1 and 3.

Teams that have locked up playoff spots don't play their stars in the final week. This way someone like Mookie Betts plays in games 160-162 because he has a 4 days rest.

The Athletics entire offense outside of Olson is right handed so I don't know why you would even consider starting Happ.

Severino, for the whole season, obviously has a better slash line against RHB, but I'd bet anything it's much worse since the ASB.

What is a slash line or ERA over 12 starts since the ASB supposed to be predictive of? He has a 2.04 ERA over his last 3 starts of the year if you wanna distill it down further.

It's indicative of something wrong with his mechanics.

Yes, he's been better recently, but clearly not himself.

No it's not, it was just a span of bad results. Seems like a stretch to attribute it to something like that. Probably a multitude of things too like bad batted ball luck, event sequencing etc.

There are pretty tangible numbers that suggest that his performance was much more than just bad luck.

Sanchez was unlucky this year. Severino's slider has been virtually non existent for a while, which has directly led to him getting shelled.

I do not like Severino in this game. 3 starts is not enough for me to think he is trustworthy enough for this do or die game

But who is?

Tanaka is as reliable as street vendor sushi and Oakland is extremely right-handed.

I would have gone Happ anyway, but we're between a rock and a hard place.
