Chief Wahoo was terrible. That it lasted as long as it did is disturbing. I'm glad they had already started phasing that out. Changing the name was the next logical progression.

Would you consider the Blackhawk logo terrible too?

No, it's not terrible, but I do think they should change it.

Chief Wahoo was an awful, racist, terribly insensitive caricature of a Native American. The Blackhawks logo is a stereotypical "Indian in a headdress" and is silly, but I don't think it's as patently offensive as the bucktoothed, broad-nosed, deep-red-skinned Chief Wahoo (even the name, come the f*** on).

But the Spiders is a really cool f***ing name, no?
Sure as shit is. I'm not too far away from University of Richmond--they're the Spiders. Always thought it was cool.

It’s not about whether or not the name is cool. It’s about preserving and respecting the traditions and history of a very old team with a storied history. Even if they didn’t have much on field success, things happened with them. The only player to have died from being hit in the head was an Indian. There was an entire movie dedicated to the Indians. I remember the Indians being a force in the 90s even though they didn’t actually win. I think of Jim Thome. Heck I think of CC when he was an Indian. And even if you don’t like it, Chief Wahoo is absolutely iconic and should be treasured and protected rather than scorned. It saddens me seeing these teams destroy themselves from the inside. You don’t eveb have to like the team to respect their history. I mean I’m a Giants fan so I f***ing hate the Redskins, but I respect the hell out of their franchise and acknowledge their times of greatness. You might as well disband the team and start a new franchise, as I doubt they’d even acknowledge the past due to the imagery associated with them.

Imagine if there was a team named the New York Jews with a logo complete with shtreimel and payos. That would not fly and appropriately so. These changes are long overdue. This is sports entertainment, the stakes are not exactly high here.
Agreed. The Redskins is by far the worst of the bunch. It's racist and should have been changed decades ago. Defending the history is total bullshit.

So if there was a team called the washington nazis. You'd be all for keeping it because of history and stuff. Even if the name itself is totally inappropriate?

That doesn’t even make sense. I mean if a team started up and called themselves the Nazis, they wouldn’t last 100 years. I think something contemporary would be a better example. If a team had been around 100 years and the acronym ISIS were used for them for decades before the ISIS we know were a thing, once the ISIS we know became a thing, I’d still call the team ISIS. Because I know the name is said so endearingly and out of respect.

Like I’m Jewish and I’d be all f***ing over a team being called the Jewboys. Like that would be f***ing awesome imo.

The spy agency on the show Archer was named ISIS and they ditched it when ISIS became noteworthy. So there's precedent here, at least in cartoons.

Yeah but redskin is not endearing or done out of respect. The word literally is a deragatory word. Like it's the literal definition. In the f***ing dictionary. This isn't some.endearing term that became negative as time went on. It was always bad, people are just finally willing to acknowledge it.

When I was a kid people would throw around the f word thats derogatory towards homosexuals all the time.. it was always bad..it's just now people are grown up enough to admit it.

There's a lot of offensive words that people socially accepted as the norms. Until they didn't.

Redskin is most definitely one.

There's a reason why the Blackhawks were basically ashamed to show off their new reverse retro jersey. Everyone knows that the teams name and logo is offensive to that culture. It's just a matter of time before they change it...if they don't change the name I'll bet you they change the logo to a hawk or something.

I accept all words. I can control my emotions. Its getting much rarer to see these days though. Everybody has to be upset about something. Its big business to be upset.

Depends on the price and if Rockies will eat any salary. But Mets have said their preference is free agents. They acknowledge the organizational depth sucks so trading multiple assets for Arenado or Lindor makes it worse. They didn’t rule it out but not the preferred path

Yeah it does come down to price. If you're getting Arenado back you can definitely give up some combination of Davis/Rosario/Gimenez/Nimmo. I'd be totally content with dealing the ML assets we have if that's something that Colorado is interested in. I'd be fine moving McNeil, too, but I wouldn't want to add a ton to him (I know that sounds crazy to some but based on WAR and future cost, I'm not sure there's going to be that much of a gulf between the two).

Interesting that they're interested, though. Surely they're aware that Sandy has stated a few times he's not really looking to trade prospects.

Too funny this news about Arenado. The Mets might have a roster so good this upcoming season that hypothetically if you were able to draft all of them for your fantasy team you'd likely compete quite well.

I don't want to move McNeil even if it meant getting Arenado. I don't even want to give up Gimenez. The other's fine...no problem. But those two...nah...I'm not giving them up. Matter of fact more that I think about it, forget Arenado...he can go somewhere else for the zillions of dollars he's going to get. We get Springer and keep our players is the way too go....simple as that!

I don't want Lindor either if it means dealing McNeil or Gimenez....sorry but I just don't.
