The Yankees casually going about their business while MLB falls apart at the seams.

my life as a Mets fan is constantly hoping that this flying police car pulverizes me into sawdust to free me

Beltran is done for sure

Probably gets fired/part ways sooner rather than later

Probably can’t fire him without paying him. This thing didn’t leak til after he was hired so not likely this was discussed during the interview. As a result I don’t believe they have any documenting of him lying to them to go on

Story first broke a few days after his hiring and iirc, he was asked about the allegations and denied them.

You know the Mets internally asked him too. They could try to say he breached his contract by lying about that I guess

The Wilpons concerned about integrity. Hey, Alanis, here's your definition of irony. Oh, and Van Wagenen, the clown who traded for a steroid user is concerned about a cheating scandal. You cannot make this up.

The report mentions Beltran exactly once, regarding his comment in April 2017 about the Astros needing to do better at picking up signals and communicating them to batters. No specifics in the how. For all we know Beltran could have been referring to runners on second picking their nose.

The Commissioner issues a memo in September 2017 making electronic signal stealing illegal and punishable. The Astros run afoul of the memo by engaging in electronic signal stealing through October.

Why would the Mets punish Beltran here? I feel like this is the media manufacturing outrage.

Could be the Mets lawyers and Beltran's people have been hashing out a deal so they can "mutually decide to part ways" like Cora and the Red Sox did.

That or a change of heart from management. The sentiment was he was done, multiple people saying announcement tonight.

We don't know the extent he went as mentioned above. It could have been a coming clean on everything in discussions on what exactly he did and how involved he was.

His name was mentioned because he is the only guy not part of the MLBPA anymore. He has protection from his actions, but probably not being in the report.

I think they're gonna stay with him at this point. I don't think the people they said no thank you to would be too kind to say you told me no in November, but I'll take it now.

The media always creates outrage like this. They'll go on and on saying how it's a non story, doesn't matter, yet it's all they talk about. It's events that occurred 2.5 years ago on a different team and a player that specifically was not punished by the league. Who cares? There is no need to fire him just to make yourself look good.

I mean if I were the Mets I’d be asking him if this is it. There’s nothing else gonna come out about you is there? You didn’t do this anywhere else in any other capacity did you?

If you’re gonna keep him you gotta press him to make sure this is the extent of it.

Gross. Beltran was my favorite player, but the whole Trashstros stint ruins his legacy for me. I hope he doesn't make the HOF now.

That is definitely one issue. There are many issues we probably didn’t think of which they discussed. One is I’m sure they know this could put a target on their backs. Beltran and other players are gonna take abuse on the road from fans for awhile. Is he ready to accept that? Because he better be

Jessica Mendoza going on Golic and Wingo this morning and making another PR mess for the Mets is pretty hilarious

Beltran is almost never going to be on the field, that shouldn't be an issue.

The media circus around Beltran/Mets that would inevitably happen over this would die down and be forgotten before the Mets do something else for everyone to laugh at/rage about.

Yes, the Mets, the team that didn't cheat, hired the guy before this news even broke or came out, and are now trying to determine if they should keep him, come off worse than the teams that:
  • Got caught cheating
  • Hired a manager that cheated (unknowingly) and then cheated on his new team
  • Were suspected of cheating years before it actually began
This is peak media overstating how poor the organization looks. Guess the Yankees are clean as a whistle since, you know, they HIRED BELTRAN right after he had just cheated and if the Mets did not make him their manager, would still be employed by them.

Give me a break.
