You can't just strip titles.

These aren't workers without rights. The commish is a facilitator for a huge group of billionaires.

If you think for one minute that any owner is going to let a league take their title away, you're out to lunch.

Does anyone remember how Deflategate played out? that was 4 games suspension for a guy who was referred to as "the deflator" in all the staff's texts and then he himself destroyed his cell phone when investigated. they ended up getting that suspension overturned (though it then was appealed)

They were never stripping the title, this isn't the NCAA.

They didn't need to strip the title though, all they needed to do was make it very, very, very difficult for Houston to win another one in the near future.
Yep this was just a shit job by the MLB.

The Astros made that $5 million in one WS home game. Go look at the attendance and average ticket price. Concessions. Ok maybe 2 games. I mean that is an absolute joke. And yes I know there is something in the MLB constitution about a cap on the penalty but its clearly outdated and not written originally for something like this.

The draft picks. Another slap on the wrist. Only the 1st and 2nd round picks for the next 2 years? Thats it in a 30+ round draft? Thats nothing. MLB players are found in round 5-20 all the time. All the time. They shouldve stripped at least the first 5 rounds and for the next 3-4 years. Set them back.

Hinch and Luhnow being suspended means absolutely nothing. Nothing. 1 year, oh well they will still have the rest of the staff with all of their players. No one cares about those two.

I know they cant strip the title away and quite honestly its pointless because you cannot go back and play those games. But they could have made them suffer. You could have disqualified them for the playoffs this upcoming year but forced them to play. And if a player sat out they would forfeit their pay. Thats a penalty that hurts.

They could have also frozen their management ability by not allowing trades for 1-2 years as well.

A bad job by the MLB

Alex Cora is next.

Stripping titles is pointless. The NCAA tries to do this and nobody cares. Everyone knows what happened regardless of whether or not the league chooses to recognize it.

Nothing restricting International spending.

The draft picks are pretty much on point, the rest of it is a big pile of meh. They weren't going to strip them of their championship, but this won't really discourage teams from cheating in the future.

not sure if this is true but on michael kaye they speculated that mlb went as far as they could without getting the MLBPA involved so there is no one to fight it. if they restricted what they could spend that changes the size of the pie going to the players which the union might object to. possibly why they didn't punish any players either but who knows

This makes sense, but they should have let the PA get involved.

Cora is going to be sacrificed, but that doesn't really hurt any of the teams who have been caught in this mess.

not sure if this was asked but with astros losing their own draft picks...do they still get the yankees pick as compensation for losing cole?

but will they still get that pick?

The Astros received a compensatory 2nd round pick for losing Cole. It's the 72nd pick in the draft. According to the below draft order from MLB.com, they will keep that pick. I assume this site is correct because they have removed the Astros other picks from their draft order but they left the compensatory pick in.

Several writers today have made passing comments like "Now what do the Mets do with Beltran? " or the "mets got a decision to make with Beltran now"

I didn't give it much thought yesterday. Curious if people think they should fire him?

Seriously doubt he'll be fired.

The Mets shouldn't feel the need to consider anything

This is just media driven speculation
One guy speculates/overtly suggests, the next guy 'heard whispers' and the last guy writes a high brow article ripping the first two. Everybody gets clicks and winssss except the fans

Cora is going to cop it. Remember when Cora was a God and Boone sucked.

So what's the scoop is Cora going to get the same kind of punishment Hinch got? I've been really busy lately and haven't been following this as close as I would like and so maybe some news about what is going to happen to Cora has come out...thx
