Fair, hopefully the Cole move puts us over the top. I still worry about this offense against quality pitching though.

That reminds me of another move... I wanted Brantley over Gardner this past season and got slammed on twitter for that. I don’t like these sentimental deals being handed out. I hope Gardner kills it this season, but with the juiced ball issue and him being another year older, there are too many question marks with him.

Un-juicing the ball will have its effects for everyone, not just him though I get your point.

The only silver lining with him is that at the very least, hes still a plus defender. Wayyyy to much coin for someone who may, and probably will play himself into being a 4th or 5th outfielder, but even if his bat becomes completely useless, he himself can still provide some value.

But yeah, I've been ready to cut that cord for a while now. Those dollars would have been better spent somewhere else.

I wanted Brantley as well. He did get it right with LaMahieu though.

I never said it wouldn’t be a problem for just Gardner. That goes without saying. However, Gardner’s power numbers jumped exponentially at an age where they decline. Launch angle isn’t going to add 10 extra homeruns to someone in his mid-late 30’s.

I agree with the defense and even his base running, but I’m not the biggest fan of bringing him back. I’ll never forget that AB against Cleveland where he worked the count to like 14 pitches in the 2017 ALDS and all of his other contributions, but they should have looked elsewhere.

Totally understand where you all are coming from re: Brantley, but given that he was signing a guy whose primary role was to be a backup to the oft-injured Hicks, given Brantley's own history and the team's familiarity with Gardner, I think you can understand the decision making. Especially since Brett's performance (in the regular season anyway) more than lived up to what they paid.

It was in Cespedes' best interest to agree. Had Mets won the grievance he'd get nothing.

You obviously weren’t wrong, but Gardner was signed to a 1 year deal - no risk - and to be a 4th OF.

Brantley has an extensive injury so there was risk (if he signed a deal then had extensive injuries it’d seem really foolish), and idk if the Yankees had a position to guarantee him. Stanton/Andujar were both intended to DH a lot with Judge rotated in. Frazier was also a potential LF option. Were the Yankees going to guarantee him an everyday spot? As it turns out, Stanton was out almost all year, Hicks was out most of the year, and Andujar missed all season. Frazier played lousy defense.

Basically what I’m saying is that you were ultimately right, but I get why the Yankees worked things out that way.

I don’t know the validity of this but it does make sense. Something like Syndergaard/Rosario for Correa/Tucker maybe?

Mets probably wouldn’t resign Correa either but I really don’t see them resigning Noah in two years. He’ll go UFA and get $200 million from someone. Mets have a deep rotation, Correa could hit in the middle of the lineup, Tucker is a cost controlled OF with high end potential. Houston probably turns Noah into Cole.

I’m a Yankee fan though so maybe I’m way off.

Correa for Syndergaard is pretty bad for the Astros IMO. So I hope they do it.

Im okay spending a bit more to have a 1 year deal with zero long term risk. Eventually his bat will slow down, but he’s also coming off probably his best season to date. He can play LF or CF. He’s signed as a 4th OF so you aren’t likely to get some young stud to sign on for that. Kinda funny that he’s always getting killed when he signs 1 year deals and far exceeds his value.

I think the Stros get hosed on that.

Take tucker out of the equation and thats probably the trade right there but then again, I don't really like Rosario at all.

Astros won't trade Tucker unless it's a ridiculous return. He is just about untouchable.

Isn't Whit Merrifield a guy worth trading farm pieces for? 2x AL leader in hits, we need contact hitters. Signed to a cheap contract.

I thought he might be movable with the success Alvarez has had. I guess I’m overreaching anyway though.

If I were the Mets I’d def throw Syndergaards name out there. A lot of these pitching needy teams are going to lose out on this SP class so they might get a golden opportunity. Houston just seems like the team that would turn moderate success into an ace.

Supposedly teams are interested but the Royals have zero interest in moving him. If no good utility options pop up on the trade market then I might just grab Brock Holt for a couple years. No power, but he plays everything and puts bat on the ball.

I just have zero faith in Wade.
