Well at least we won't have to hear the incessant complaining until either they hire another pitching coach that the fans don't like or until 2 months into the season when they turn on the pitching coach they do.

Best things that could happen to the Yanks pitching staff is:
- Severino performing and staying healthy. (likely)
- Paxton being healthy (unlikely) and productive for a whole season. (possible)
- Getting above average arm to add to their starters. (unlikely unless it comes from in-house)
- If they resign Betances, he rebounds. (Will they resign him?)

We dont need him. Bring Didi back on a 5 year deal so long as the salary is appropriate. Didi was a 4+ WAR player the previous two seasons. He was recovering from Tommy John this year and came back sooner than expected. He should be better next season with time off and time to get his mechanics back and order. The TJ definitely affected the back side of his swing. He was getting under a lot of pitches that he would normally square up better. The cost of 1 WAR for position players is about $5-$6 million per year. I would expect Didi’s WAR to have a drop in the 3-4 range moving forward. So if the number comes in at $14-$15 million per year for the next 5 years then i am interested. Didi has been good in the field and at the plate, but more importantly he is a huge part of that clubhouse. Those factors combined makes me prefer him to spending even more in assets AND money for Lindor. Lindor is absolutely younger and is about a 6 WAR player...he is better....but is that difference large enough to make up for what Didi brings and the cost? Personally, I don’t think so.

This team needs more contact in that lineup. The position that we could upgrade is LF. Gardner should not start despite his inflated numbers this year. Stanton should be a full time DH. Hicks in CF, he gets on base. Urshela-Didi-Torres-DJ around the diamond. A lefty bat that makes contact would be preferred for LF.

They need to sign Cole.
Then id also look to sign Strasburg too. If you miss on him, then MadBum.

Add 2 starters. Try to trade Happ AND German. Likely one will be staying which is ok for insurance although we have Monty to be the 6th man / long man.

Bring Chapman back. I dont care about what happened in the ALCS. This bullpen will be even better if we get Cole/Strasburg to give them length throughout the season sparing them.

Bring Betances back.

You know who's a lefty bat that makes contact? Francisco Lindor.

You can't make the WAR argument for Didi and then suggest we replace Gardiner who has a 4.0 before he gets out of bed.

The argument against Gardner is that he sucks in the playoffs. So does Didi.
 
The thing with the Mets is, it's not like they've been totally opposed to making splashy free agent signings, or spending money on their own guys. They just usually sign the wrong guys.

But beyond that, I wouldn't find it shocking that if they cleared payroll, they would pursue someone like Rendon. The Mets will never be a team to pay the luxury tax, and they came close to it last year. If they were like $50M clear of it I could absolutely see them trying to get Rendon. They'll be paying deGrom $33M+ per season in two years, so it's not like they're opposed to carrying guys with huge annual salaries. And I get the sense that BVW is a guy who likes to make splashy moves.

Not saying I expect anything like this to happen. I just don't think the idea of it is totally farcical.
 
I like what someone else suggested a while back:

Let Didi walk.
Move Torres to SS.
LeMahieu to 2B.
Andujar to 1B – if he can hack it; if not, some combination of Voit/Ford (Frazier)?
Spend your money and assets on SP (Cole in particular).

Trea Turner is reaming out the umpires from the bunch. FOX picking up that audio is amazing.

That is a brutal call for the Nationals on that play.
 
Never seen a manager get thrown out of a world series game before. Wow they just said Bobby Cox in 1996. Forgot all about that. I'm getting old.
