I said it the other day--if Strasburg could win Game Six, things line up really well for the Nationals. We'll see how it plays out.

Rendon is such a cool cat... Hope he has a Matsui game 6 in 2009 type game today

Greinke hasn't been good in high pressure situations, but maybe he watch him magically pull a quality start out of his butt

You know who's a lefty bat that makes contact? Francisco Lindor.

You can't make the WAR argument for Didi and then suggest we replace Gardiner who has a 4.0 before he gets out of bed.

The argument against Gardner is that he sucks in the playoffs. So does Didi.
Actually I can make the arguments for Didi and suggest replacing Gardner because they play two different positions.

While I prefer a lefty bat, we have Clint Frazier who could start playing regularly in the OF. Gardner is 36 years old. His BB% was down this year and his K% was up. He isn’t finding the fountain of youth. Letting the HRs with the juiced balls enamor you would be foolish.

This comes down to a very simple angle. Didi will only cost money. Lindor will cost multiple top prospects and eventually more money than what Didi will get. SS is not a weakness. We are better served keeping Didi and our assets, and spending that money on Cole and Strasburg, re-signing Betances and Chapman. They can bring Gardner back if they cant find a better option or to be the 4th OF. There isnt much to get excited about in free agency for OFers. Ozuna, Marte, Castellanos, Puig are all right handed bats. Eaton is a left bat that could be an option. Castellanos and Eaton would be the targets, or they can explore the trade market.

Neither the Yanks or Astros hit the cover off the ball in that ALCS. But Houston had the edge where it counted in the Starting Rotation. And that edge did not just exist in the ALCS, it was in the weeks and months leading up to the playoffs. We abused our bullpen all year long while they had starters that could go 6 innings regularly. And when it came down to it, our Bullpen was not sharp in relief or as the opener. Overworked. So go get great SP in Strasburg and Cole a la CC/Burnett, bring back your bullpen, and win a championship with pitching.

There is no way that they are signing Strasburg and Cole. The Yankees don't spend with abandon anymore.

Nope they won't sign both. Probably won't sign either. Personally, I'd like them to target Cole because it simultaneously weakens the Astros and strengthens the Yanks in a likely area of need. I believe with Cole and the current Yanks staying healthy, they leap frog the Astros as the favorites in 2020 to have the best record and go to the WS .

Sad but true. Cashman will probably go dumpster diving for starters. Any JA Crapp types available?

There are several league average pitchers with ERA+ around 100 and xFIP in the low 4s. Some "named" pitchers too.

One interesting bit from last nights game. Strasburg said in the post game that he was tipping his pitches in the 1st inning (The Astros were all over all of his pitches) and when he got back to the dugout, Paul Menhart, Nats' pitching coach, pointed it out to him and he corrected it. He even alluded to over-correcting it in a sense in order to through off the Astros hitters. His performance the rest of the way was the result. Just find it pretty interesting as it seems this is getting more and more talked about/scrutinized.

We aren't getting Cole. If Strasburg opts out it's to get more money out of Washington.

Astros seem to be REALLY good at spotting when a pitcher is tipping their pitches. After the 1st inning, I thought Strasburg doesn't seem to have his A stuff, and he beyond cruised the rest of the way.

Bumgarner is still a legit #2 with excellent playoff resume. He'd look good behind Severino and Tanaka.

I dunno man. Looking at his profile, he's almost the definition of league average at this point (as well as Tanaka last year). His fly ball and line drive rates last year were also pretty high. At least he bounced back from two years of being injured. I don't think it would be a disaster signing ala Happ and the one thing he'd add is rotation depth (any league average pitcher would honestly). I just don't think he moves the needle at this point.

If they aren't going to go after the top flight starters, and they probably won't, then yeah Bumgarner would be an alright signing. The caveat is at what price and years?

I think they go all in on Strasburg once he opts out.

I’d take Bumgarner on if they hire a real pitching coach. We have room for multiple starters.

Wheeler is going to blow out his arm again in the near future.

My wife, who doesn't watch baseball, says the Stros are a cocky bunch.
