They’re also going to have a ton of bodies next year and I have no idea where everyone’s gonna play.
C: Ramos
1B: Alonso
2B: Cano
3B: McNeil
SS: Rosario
LF: Cespedes
CF: Nimmo
RF: Conforto
That lineup doesn’t even include Lowrie, Smith, and Davis. I think that lineup gives them the best combo of offense and defense with the set guys on the roster. Obviously you’d want to get Davis’ bat in the lineup but I don’t see how he plays without putting Conforto in center. And they’re gonna have to decide what to do with Dom too in terms of playing time or dealing him.
If you'd ask me, I think Brodie will go shopping for a CF this offseason. Nimmo is nice, but this team really needs someone that can go get it and contribute on offense. Most good teams have that multi faceted CF that gives them more than just a bat or just a glove. Makes me wonder if McNeil can do it. He's killed it on the corners and having him there would allow Davis to play 3rd. Could become somewhat of a LH version of Whit Merrifield.
While Dom has been a nice player for the Mets, he's not an OF and we'd be wasting him as a bat off the bench. I think he's traded as a piece to get that CF if McNeil is viewed as a corner OF/2nd/3rd. Not to mention, this could get Cano some backup 1st base time on days Alonso needs a rest. Lots of flexibility with the roster.
There is going to be a lot of ways to go here, but for the first time I can remember the roster has multiple everyday lineup pieces that may be on the bench. Now if there is some way we can prevent the bullpen from having 2 months where it implodes, this could be a playoff team.
