There’s really no way the Mets can make the postseason at this stage even with a win tonight. The Cubs schedule is a joke. The Mets could probably win 20 of their final 29 after tonight and still not get in

If the Cubs are winning that many games over the final stretch of the season, they're winning the division and likely shitting all over the Cardinals to do so.

Win tonight. Need to go 19-10 the rest of the way. They just had a better stretch that that, and they do have those two weeks in September vs bottom feeder teams. Need to do work there, but tonight is as must win as you can get. 3 back isn't catastrophic. 5 games though, that'll be a tall task.

That's pretty much my thinking as well. After the sweep in the Indians series in which we had 34 games left, I had it that to in order for Mets to get the 2nd WC, they'd have to likely win 88 games. After Cleveland, Mets were at 67-60 which to me meant, they'd need to go 21-14 or so in order to likely get in. Now that to me was doable...play around .550 ball rest of the way.

Now tho and obviously none of us was expecting this 5 game possibly 6 game losing streak. If we lost tonight we'd be 67-66, we'd need to go 21-8 to get to 88 wins and like you said even if we did that, it's not a guarantee we are in.

So bottom line, unfortunately I agree with you that even with a win tonight, this 5 game losing streak happened at the wrong time and we lost to the wrong team and we are likely toast. Unless some weird shit happens and these other teams like the Cubs and Cards implode and we can beat Philly 5 of the 6 games we have left with them.

I'll be interested to see if the Mets can write the ship by winning tonight and going into Philly and taking 2 of 3 if not all 3. Let's see about tonight first.

Even Lester needed to eventually see where that ball ended up....too funny

But holy shit...what a bomb from JD...that looked like it went 500 feet

That ball was crushed. Statcast is 100% wrong on that ball.

If statcast doesn't work correctly, is the first suggestion to turn it off, wait a minute and turn it back on?

Not being able to get to Lester has to be maddening. They've put some solid contact against him and the results are one run.

At this point, that 27 pitch first might get him out after next inning.

It was always going to be super difficult and uphill but at least I enjoyed baseball almost till September!

:(

Edit: In true fairness, it was more like a 2-3 week stretch in the middle of the season but I digress lol

Damn shame. At least they got us close to hockey season.

It really is a shame. Team had it right in the grasp of their hands after that Indians sweep and than....this.

It's just so Mets to do this and I knew the risk of getting all sucked in, but I kept holding out hope that this was one of those years like 1973 or 2015 where we come from the dead and have this magical fall.

But no...wasn't meant to be. I will say that this run we had for what was it a month. It's way up there on the fun scale for me. I'd compare it favorably to that 4 week "Linsanity" run 6 years ago when Jeremy Lin came out of nowhere and made watching the Knicks fun again. Well the Mets were fun again as well and Citi Field hasen't rocked like this in 3 year.

We have some nice pieces for next year with the bats...solid core, love the starting pitching and me personally, I'd keep Diaz as I think this year was a fluke...he's too talented.

Not giving up totally but as we talked about earlier...we are going to need to go 21-8 or something crazy like that to even have a shot. Been a heck of fun ride tho...that's for damn sure.

Relievers are so volatile that its hard to say.

Though the metrics suggest that hes pitched better than his numbers would indicate.

At this point you’ve gotta keep Diaz. His value’s shot compared to what they gave up along with what they took on in Cano too. Dealing him would be the ultimate sell low and egg on your face type deal. Keep him and hope he rebounds next season.

They’re also going to have a ton of bodies next year and I have no idea where everyone’s gonna play.

C: Ramos
1B: Alonso
2B: Cano
3B: McNeil
SS: Rosario
LF: Cespedes
CF: Nimmo
RF: Conforto

That lineup doesn’t even include Lowrie, Smith, and Davis. I think that lineup gives them the best combo of offense and defense with the set guys on the roster. Obviously you’d want to get Davis’ bat in the lineup but I don’t see how he plays without putting Conforto in center. And they’re gonna have to decide what to do with Dom too in terms of playing time or dealing him.

I feel like I would take the under on Cespedes playing a scattered 50 games next season.
He needs to go to the A.L and become a full time d.h.Shame he cant stay healthy anymore. He and Alonso could have been 1 hell of a 1-2 power punch.

Is it just me or does deGrom allow an inordinate amount of homers to scrubs? I mean this guy who hit two tonight has to be one of the worst players in all of baseball

Todd Frazier is worse.

Thanks for the tease, once again, Metropolitans. See you next year.

115 OPS+ this year...not as bad as you think
