OT: MLB Thread XLI: Dog Days

He didn't even get all of it/just seemed that way.

I kind of still cannot believe we have a player such as he. Kind of like I still cannot believe our Rangers ended up getting Kaako.

Kind of will make not making the PO's kind of okay. Disappointed yes, but nonetheless.....moving forward we certainly have a decent shot from here on in with Pete being the cornerstone.
 
looking at the schedules and like someone said earlier, it really looks like the Nats and the Cubbies will have to fall out on their faces, cuz I really don't see Milwaukee losing a three-game lead over the Mets with their remaining schedule being the Pirates Cincy and Colorado. That probably isn't happening.

Cubs 6 games with Cardinals, 3 Pirates
Nats.....3 Miami, 5 Phillies, 3 Indians
 
Mets sit 79-73...3 games behind both the Cubs and Brewers. If we can go 9-1 in our final 10 games and finish 88-74 it would mean both the Cubs and Brewers would need to do no better than 6-4 in both teams final 10 games which would force a play in game to get to the WC play in game.

We are likely done as Fangraphs gives us a 6% chance while both the Cubs are at 52% and Brewers are 48%.

With 3 games at Cincy and the final 7 at home with 4 with Miami and 3 with the Braves, it would be pretty f***ing cool if we could somehow sweep the Reds and likely not be eliminated yet and have those 4 tasty games with Miami on tap. Who knows maybe we could sweep those 4 as well and really make it more than interesting and more like "holy shit"...lol

Pretty fun final 2 months I have to say as we were once upon a time 11 games under .500 on July 24th with apparently no shot to even have important games in August and September. Well, the boys showed alot of heart and resiliency to make this one of the more fun playoff races in recent memory.

Not giving up yet until the fat lady sings tho she has been clearing her throat for a few days already...lol
 
I will concede the Brewers will make it, especially with their schedule. Cubs and Nationals? Not so much. Cubs/Cards starts today, with another set to end the season. Pirates series is 3 wins right there. Would need Cardinals to take 5 out of 7. Nats have the Marlins for 3, but their last 8 are Phillies and Indians. While at home, tough games. Phillies will be gassed up to ruin their season, especially Harper, and they are still in it too. Harper would cement the permanent villain role by being the guy that takes down the Nationals after leaving them.

While the Mets won't make it, one of the Cubs or Nationals will miss IMO. Nationals would be such a Nats thing to do, so I hope we get to see it.

How many games has he blown this season? It's not just a "few".

Even with all the injuries, with slightly above average pitching, this Yankee team would even be more dominant than the 1998 team. But this Yankee pitching is pretty mediocre at best.

Right now, if they end up playing Oakland, they're out.

I agree that one of those two misses. The Mets would have had a legit shot even now if not for 3 teams being up there because even if the Mets go 7-3 or 8-2 and the Nats or Cubs go 4-6 they’d still miss because all they’d do is end up 87-75 tied with that collapsing team while the Brewers and whichever one of the two Cubs or Nats didn’t choke getting in
 
Big Mike must be running circles right about now. I mean between Shurmur and now this he probably doesn’t know where to start today. The only thing more insane that could happen now is Syndergaard goes out and gets arrested before 3pm

sucks but any self-righteous people who say 'they need to release him' and 'he can f*** off' probably wouldn't support releasing the guy who fired multiple gunshots after *allegedly* choking out his GF and putting his hands on her.

The downvoting and backlash I am getting on Yankees forum for pointing out the aforementioned double standard is hilarious.

anyway, German will be back at some point. hitting your wife is okay in baseball, having sex with kids isn't (felipe vasquez).

I understand this view, but difference is that someone witnessed German doing it.

Chapman's GF gave inconsistent stories and IIRC no physical marks on her
 
There's speculation on twitter right now that it might have happened sometime during Sabathia's charity gala.

The fact that it was witnessed by a Commissioner's office official is a pretty wild.

I'll say this...

Chapman had the rage to grab a gun and empty the clip right after his GF accused him of putting his hands on her.

Ironically, the former (popping the gun off) confirms the latter (he hit his GF) for me. Normal people don't retrieve and empty their firearm after altercation/argument with a spouse, that's a clear sign of domestic abuser to me. But I digress.....

It looks suspicious for sure, but it was reported that his GF had inconsistencies in her story.

That's true. That could be (and to me most likely is) that she stopped co-operating with the investigation, that's what happened with Roberto Osuna. And you see that a lot with DV cases in general, the spouse will stop or refuse to co-operate with the investigation.

I don't know. I'm not trying to convince anyone, just giving my opinion. The retrieving and emptying of the firearm after the argument/altercation is just too much of a red flag for me to say Chappy was innocent and his GF was fabricating the charges. Normal people simply don't do that.

Must have been at the CC event. I’m not picturing too many staff from the commish’s office partying it up after midnight at a bar that German and his wife would be at
