Wilmer Flores hitting a HR was the least shocking thing I could possibly imagine

So true. Well tonight worked out perfectly for everyone except the DBacks. Flores hits a HR in return to Citi-Field and Mets win via a deGrom masteripiece while Alonso inches closer and closer to the 50 homer mark. Life is good!

Frustrating season aside, Alonso hitting 50 would be an extremely cool thing to witness.

No doubt. Not sure if any of us would have ever thought in our lifetimes we'd see a Met player hit 50 HR's. Our team over the years is notoriously known for its pitchers never hitters.

If you think back, other than maybe Dave Kingman and Darryl Strawberry, what other Met can you think of in their history who you ever thought even had a shot at 50 if everything broke right?

Exactly...none...lol

Just imagine how good Alonso would be if he hit in a neutral park for half of his games.

Doesn’t he have another year? I thought he signed a two-year deal.

He does, but I could see them trading him and looking for someone else in free agency or in a separate trade. His defense is not ideal, but his bat is very good.

If the plan is to move Syndergaard though, he probably stays. He's not the long term catcher for this team, so moving him after this could prove to bring some value back to the farm. Would need an adequate replacement.

The only way I'm trading Syndergaard is if they are pursing Cole, but I can't see that happening, although I would go after Cole and make other trades to have it work. Top of the rotation of deGrom, Cole, and Syndergaard would just be silly.

I'd be surprised if Syndergaard is a Met long term. Arbitration will be messy. And the Wilpons do not like vocal players.

Would it matter though? I mean he had just one homer at Citizens Bank Park this year. Much like many said Yankee stadium didn’t help Judge I’m not sure Citi really hurt Alonso. They both crushed most of the homers they hit so far the ballpark factor likely barely played in

I think it’s more he’s had several incidents now where he was outspoken on things and the media got hold of it. The big issue is if you’re going to trade him you probably have to sign Wheeler. Stroman I believe you see what he does in 2020. If he returns to his former self you consider giving him a long term deal but remember by 2021 it’s possible Szapucki and possibly whoever you get back for Syndergaard might be a rotation factor so there may be no room for Stroman as a guaranteed starter

The whole thing was held privately too until "someone" leaked it.

Brodie made deGrom do this same thing last year with Devin Mesoraco when he was Jake's agent.

.237 batting average at home.

I get it, but you don't say you're benching a player. Resting is better, but either way Davis needs to be playing. Frazier should be a bench player, but he's been starting too much for me.

Also, Lowrie is supposedly good to go, yet here is Frazier.

Would love Syndergaard on NYY, but would rather break record pitching contract to get Cole. If they don't sign him the off-season is probably a failure.

Todd Frazier is the Dan Girardi of baseball.

Also, Jed Lowrie earned $10 million in income this year, how did you do?

Mesoraco is was not (always) an automatic out like Nido.

Syndergaard also pitches significantly better with Nido, but I understand that point too.

My gripe isn't that there isn't understandable frustration from either party, but rather that this is the most obvious leak for when they gear up to sell him for some underwhelming return this winter.

Since Lowrie doesn't actually exist, this seems like some pretty shrewd money laundering by the Wilpons. Jed Lowrie is really just a shell company.

What percentage of the Mets' internal budget is wrapped up in Wright, Cespedes, Lowrie and let's include Bobby Bonilla too.

Cespedes - $29M
Cano - $19M
Wright - $15M
Lagares - $9M
Lowrie - $8.5M
Familia - $6.6M
Vargas - $6M
d'Arnaud - $3.5M
----------------------
$96.6M

In other words, Mets pay a shit ton of money to guys who either haven't played at all this season, are absolutely terrible or are no longer with the team.
