The Mets have no business losing a home series when facing Darvish and Hendricks and throwing deGrom and Thor. They absolutely need to win the next two. They look hungover from their streak.

Gonna be a negative Nancy here. You know what wouldn't surprise me in the least? Stroman being put on the IL, and using his injury as an excuse for his "less than" pitching they thought they were getting.
I am not writing him off, I really like the kid.......but in a big game like last nights, he NEEDED to be a big game pitcher, and lets face it, he was anything but.
I believe in this team, they've been fun to watch for the most part. You cant win every game, but these last 4 losses have been disheartening. Especially when the bright lights got even brighter. Dimmed quickly and painfully.

well it was fun while it lasted
Giving up? Naaah. It ain't over till it's over. Anytime you throw out the SP'ing we have, a 7 game winning streak cannot be too far away. Wheeler's last outing was like the only really bad start we have had lately. We just need to score a few more runs here and there. Leadoff triples that arent eventually scored......cripples a team sometimes. Not advancing runners, etc. Etc.
The last loss vs Braves (I think so anyway) Conforto had a chance to get to 3rd with one out and didnt. Next up was a long enough fly ball (I think Ramos) that would have scored him. Yeah, stuff like that contributes to losing. I am not giving up, this team has proven worthy of that. 31 games left, lets just get these next wins. Start with that, one game at a time.

Somebody please tell me how we couldn't hit Darvish? Irritating. Thats what opposing teams must feel like when Vargas would pitch a similar game.
I had looked forward to this series as being even more important than the Braves series. We were "housed" there. No excuses. Just go out and win these next 2 games.
Rest assured Alonso is putting that pressure on himself. I just know it.
P.S. We could really use a shot in the arm. Nimmo anyone?

Mostly a right handed lineup. When fully healthy Smith and Nimmo likely start last night and it may be a different result. Darvish just destroys right handed hitters. I expect they’ll score runs tonight. Hendricks has owned the Mets in his career but never started against them at Citi and he’s a terrible road pitcher. My concern tonight though is Ramos catching Syndergaard. Call me crazy but I have Nido in there

I give Stroman credit though. He has yet to totally implode despite never having his best stuff. He has limited damage in every start enough so that the offense could still win the game. This is more than I can say about guys like Matz or Wheeler who when they don’t have their best stuff seem to just let games get away from them

That 14 inning loss in opener, seemed like it took the wind out of their sails. Was a big game, and they KNOW they should have locked that win down.
Losses happen, good teams minimize them by going out the next day and win. They are a good team, but I guess still learning how to win regularly, consistently over a much larger scale than this very good 2 month period.

That loss really destroyed their pen. I felt whichever team lost that game in all likelihood would end up swept in that series for that reason. The pen hurt them again the next night due to fatigue. Now everyone in there is rested they should be able to win both these games if they score 4-5 runs

Agreed. A game here and there without your best stuff happens to everyone not named deGrom. 4/5 games in a row? Found ways to lose, has given up 6 homers in 5 games. Limiting damage is NOT 4 runs in 6 or less than 6 innings. Again, dont get me wrong as I like the kid and have Mets blind faith he will get it together. Switching leagues doesnt mean jack. Everyone is new to each other for the most part. He should have it somewhat easier in facing pitchers, but.....he walked Darvish and "wasted" 9 pitches in doing so. Next inning Darvish struck out Stroman on 3 pitches, just saying.

Got very unlucky in that 2nd inning. Conforto triple, which was aided by a poor play in RF, and then a laser lineout by Ramos which would be a hit in most situations, robbed by a GG shortstop. Panik's ball could have dropped in too. Near 100 MPH off the bat and in the gap. You never know what happens from there.

Hendricks is like trying to hit Maddux. Have to hope the umpire isn't pitcher friendly tonight giving off the dish. Thor can get guys out that way, Hendricks cannot. Have to go on another streak here or we just wasted the best stretch of baseball the team has played since 2015.

The Mets staff as a whole is pretty overrated. DeGrom is crazy good but Syndergaard is fairly hit prone despite being a very good pitcher so he usually doesn’t give you a ton of length on average beyond 5-6 innings. Matz/Stroman/Wheeler I think many teams would love those guys as their 3-4-5 but let’s face it without a strong bullpen it’s tough to win games those guys start over the long haul. They have many games where they only go 4-5 and give up 4 runs or more

Who does he or Hicks even bench? Tauchman is better than both this season. EE will probably be benched as a DH, which is a waste but good problem to have I suppose.

Tonight’s home plate ump Chris Conroy is one of the least pitcher friendly umps in the league

What is many games? Wheeler has 5 of those over 25. Matz is also at 5. Stroman just got here and hasn't been great, but he was stellar with Toronto. How often is too much? These guys are all top 100 in pitcher WAR. Everyone but Matz is basically top 25 in FIP (Stroman is .01 behind in 26th).

The starters are not the issue and have not been the issue for a long time. Offense going dry and the bullpen blowing up earlier in the season were the issue.

The bats have gone cold. Stroman's been bitten a little since he got here. He wasn't hit hard last night, scattered a few hits, unfortunately two of those hits were two-run homers. And ran into an unhittable version of usually hittable Darvish.

I can’t believe people think Lagares would have caught that homerun ball. I never saw a behind the fence view of it but come on people. Are we now making guarantees that a certain fielder would have made an over the wall homerun robbing catch?

Yeah that stuff is ridiculous. I'm fine with Micky bullpen or pitching usage criticisms.

But the arguing over which player who can't hit should play is dumb. You can't predict these hot streaks by bad players. How long are you going to bank on Juan Lagares and his .400 BABIP coming through?

These guys are awful for 2000 ABs, then have a hot streak and Mets fans are irate because Andy Heccharviaa and Juan Lagares aren't in the lineup daily.

They might postpone this game tonight. Normally they would not as the Mets tend to be aggressive with weather but with that debacle that occurred last week I could see the Wilpons and Brodie trying to save face. Also they may not want McNeil JD and Thor risking injury in these conditions

Guess they'll be playing between the raindrops tonight. Thunderstorms in the mix too. Don't know why they don't see this as a big risk and just move the game to tomorrow for a doubleheader.

My concern wouldn’t be Syndergaard risking injury as much as it’s Syndergaard starts the game then they have to put the tarp on for an extended period 3 innings in.

Yep, gonna suck when he starts the game, there's a long delay early on, and the Mets have to go to the bullpen for the rest of the game and pray the relievers have a good night.
