Stevie better hope Soto stays healthy….

I mean if a 26 year old Mike Trout hit free agency in 2024 or 2025 he'd probably get Soto's contract or maybe even more. That was only a few years ago, but at that time you had basically 2-3 teams at the $200M level. Now you're going to have like 10-12 and multiple teams who spend more than $300M. The Dodgers handed out $1.3 billion worth of contracts last winter. It's crazy how things have exploded.

I understand they are different markets. My point was Steve Cohen better pray Soto doesn’t age like Trout otherwise he’s paying a lot of money for a lot of years.

The money and term are getting too crazy. IMO in a decade, we’ll look back on these contracts and shake our heads.

Yeah thats the risk with big money long term contracts. If Soto follows the Trout path and starts getting banged up and missing a bunch of time every year after his age 27 season this will be one of the worst contracts in sports history, thats absolutely true.

I don't think you can assume that will happen though. He's one of the best hitters through his age 25 (going into 26) season EVER and is being paid as such. Remember players don't typically hit free agency this young unless they suck and Soto... does not suck.

Soto will probably be a full time DH for the Mets once they reach his opt out in 5 years. And the money wont hurt Cohen. His net worth has gone up 3+ billion since he bought the Mets and it will only get higher between now and whenever Soto stops being an effective player.

Five years of him not being a DH is more than the Dodgers will get out of Ohtani for $700m.

I'd like to see the Yanks sign Alfonzo. That would make for a really interesting Yanks/Mets setup especially if we got a starting pitcher and Alfonzo for the Soto money.

People have been saying the same thing every year for the past few decades.
The George Steinbrenner group bought the NY Yankees for around $3 million in the 1970's. Now players are getting 3/4 of a billion. Now that is inflation!

Seeing a lot of Kyle Tucker proposals including Jasson Dominguez. If he wasn't needed for 1 year of Soto, I have to believe he isn't needed for 1 year of Tucker.

Kyle Tucker for Gil, Warren and Perreira

Clay Bellinger for Jorbit Vivas

Find trade partner for Marcus Stroman

Sign 1B Paul Goldschmidt

C - Austin Wells
1B - Paul Goldschmidt
2B - Cabrera/Peraza/Durbin/Lemahieu
3B - Jazz Chisolm
SS - Anthony Volpe
LF - Kyle Tucker
CF - Clay Bellinger
RF - Aaron Judge
DH - Giancarlo Stanton

1. Tucker
2. Judge
3. Bellinger
4. Goldschmidt
5. Stanton
6. Wells
7. Chisolm
8. 2B

Trading another young arm for a guy who is 1 year from UFA and going to market is not what the yanks need. They’ll miss Michael King. And I’m a Mets fan. Go for Bellinger.

Mets needs Alonzo and another pitcher already, let’s go.

I won’t like if they pinch Pennies on Manaea and Pete after going big on Soto

i agree with all except goldy-numbers have been declining the past 3 seasons. i'd rather have walker, or someone like schaunuel from the angels. i also wouldn't mind having rengifo from the angels

Trading Gil with 5 years of protection left is a tough pill to swallow and I would certainly be hesitant to give him up. A similar trade to the Soto return would more likely be Schmidt, Hampton and Perreira. However, with the Yankees current rotation Gil is at best the 4th pitcher.
  • They could still land Sasaki
  • They could sign Flaherty, Buehler, another FA pitcher
  • Gil could be a one year wonder
  • Stroman or Nestor could return to previous form next season if kept
They are not going to find a player of Tucker's caliber that could bat lead-off in front of Judge and play gold glove LF.

Tucker is much better than Bellinger, but why not get both as I initially suggested? Bellinger could be your solution at 1B or CF (if Dominguez isn't ready for full-time).

I see Walker in the same boat as Goldschmidt and Santana. Aging Right hand hitting defensive 1B. Last year they all hit HR between 22-26. Last year they all hit between .238-.251. The difference is Sanatana and Goldschmidt probably except 1 year deals in the 7 figure range rather than multiple years for 8 figures.

Do you still like Walker better if it means the Yankees can't afford Bellinger? Do you still like Walker if it means the Yankees don't have as much to offer Tucker after the season?

Goldschmidt and Sanatana could be R/L platooned with Ben Rice to keep them fresh, or Bellinger could push him to the bench if Dominguez earns full time duty in CF. A lot more flexibility now and in the future with this lineup.
