The right move by the Mets, if only Degrom were 2 years younger though I hate seeing '30' and contract extension these days.

Good deal for both sides.

Mets get a break on term while Degrom has the option to cash in one more time 3 years in if his performance warrants it.

Money is solid market value.

DeGrom doesn't have the mileage that most pitchers at 30 do since he was a SS first. Not too worried IMO.

Why did the Mets rush into signing DeGrom? Could have waited
Why? Wait another year and he's an impending free agent. If he has another huge year he'll cost even more, and he'll use the leverage of walking after the season in negotiations. He didn't really have that leverage this year--he could have refused to sign but he'd then have to play for an arbitration award with no security. He also said he wanted to sign, and BVW when he was his agent said mid-last year that they needed to sign him now or trade him.

It was a good deal. Mets get at least a few more years of him, his opt-out year has big cash ahead of it meaning he may not want to do so, and he gets security. It's actually really good for both parties.

Now next year, they can take a look at Thor.

DeGrom also was clearly getting irritated with the process.

Don't want to piss off your stars and let this linger. Good for the Mets to squash this with out getting stupid.

Yeah if the season started with no deal I figured he would be traded cause he was gonna leave. It was as close as it could have been without blowing up in their face

I could have sworn that I read something weeks ago that said that deGrom told the Mets "Extend me by the start of the season or trade me". Looks like he got his wish.

Bill Bergen

Made Mario Mendoza look like Hank Aaron
At least he has 2 homers which says a lot about a guy with none.

Still, Bergen had a season with a negative OPS+. I legitimately didn't know it went into negative.

Bergen already has the worst fWAR of all-time and being a halfway decent defender stopped it from being much lower than it already was.

It's incredible. The man was a respected defensive catcher but he basically was taking at bats with a pool cue.
