Mets getting the Yankees sloppt seconds during his age 36-40 seasons taking on a bunch of money while giving up their best prospect. Diaz is great but you can find good relievers. They couldve spent the money in free agency. This is pretty bad

Cano is still a great player. Diaz is a great reliever and very cheap. Swarzak/Bruce are irrelevant and good guys to get rid of. As long as Kelenic isn't involved (which he very well may be) this will be a good trade.

It’s remote Cano will produce at this age

Oh come on, the Wright thing was completely unforeseeable. Even Cespedes' injuries were bad luck. Cuddyer and Bruce were bad, though Bruce had a 123 wRC+ after he came back and could still redeem himself. I mean everyone thought the Granderson deal was horrible after one season and he ended up being a very good player for the Mets. Maybe swap Bruce out with Bay or something until Bruce proves he sucks.

The lolmets was in reference to the majority of Mets signings/trades for big money players flopping whether it's due to performance or injuries (latter for guys like Yoenis and Wright).

And now rumors of them throwing the kitchen sink for an elite releiver and 36 yr old 2B fresh from a PED suspension and history of lackadaisical play doesn't concern you?

Also, speaking of sucks, Cassanate, really? Talk about a guy with not a single admirable quality.

He is a national treasure.

It’s odd how similar deGrom and Cano’s careers progressed. Both were miserably ranked prospects not really expected to be anything more than a utility guy and reliever respectively. It’s one of the rare instances the Yankees and Mets badly underrated a prospect in the system. It’s usually the other way around

Are you actually drawing a meaningful connection between those names and a salary retained Cano? Or are you just using empty buzzwords because bad contracts in the past means you should never ever bother with them again?

Cuddyer made $8 for one year.

Bruce blows and none of us wanted him back. Cano in 80 games last year put up better a better WAR year than all but 2 seasons in Bruce's entire career.

Yoenis and Wright is a gigantic lol. Were we just supposed to let them walk? Because they would suffer terrible health problems after we signed them?

Cuddyer cost the Mets a 1st round pick so it is in the lolmets category.

Bruce regression was predictable from a mile away.

Yoenis and Wright were unfortunate with injuries, but the result of those really put the team in a rough spot, so it also falls in the category imo.

There are smart investments the Mets could make. Trading for Cano wouldn't be one of them. Could throw a package for one of the Indians Starters and go hard after free agents like Robertson/Britton/Miller + Grandal at around roughly the same cost.

If Kelenic is somehow not involved in the deal then I would be much more open to it. Hopefully the Coupon's are scouring the internet to see how bad the reactions are and decide to tell bro to back out of it last min. They don't wanna sign free agent's for 9 figure deals but would rather pay a guy thats closer to his 40's than 30's until he's 41 at a position he won't be able to play for the next 5 years. The same guy who the Yankees were terribly afraid of what the last 3 years or so would look like, the Mets aren't. Lmao. #MetsLogic.

On that note. Diaz is a goddamn stud though.

It all comes down to if the prospects develop

Cano does still have good numbers but is getting older ... Diaz a stud .... keeping McNeil it seems thankfully ... no clue how they work this defensively yet

No ones gonna mind Bruce out cause now the OF corners are Cespedes and Conforto when healthy . Can figure out a CF to go w Nimmo and Lagares

Get a C as a free agent next
Frazier can play some 1b if Alonso isn’t ready

Andrew Miller setting up Diaz ?

Do people hate Cano for leaving the Yankees or the PED suspension? He’s still a great hitter - probably the second best at 2B after Altuve, still a good defender, has not shown any signs of decline at all yet. Trading both Kelenic and Dunn would be bad but not as bad as the takes on Kelenic saying he has an “above average player floor” and is a future Yelich.

Take out Kelenic and replace him with Smith and I still don’t love it.

You know there's no way, and my post is just a general frustration about how the Wilpons are continually involved in day-to-day decisions that reek of cutting corners to save money. They're never going to reach the level of Frank McCourt, so we're stuck.

I would much rather move Smith than Kelenic at this point.

I’m on the verge of burning all my Mets jerseys and start buying some Aaron Judge and Yankee gear.

This agent playing fantasy GM is an absolute clown.

What in the f*** do we have developing in the farm system now?

I would’ve rather kept all the prospects, traded Noah for some more elite prospects. And went ham in FA. But you know the Wilpons are still alive and absolutely destroying the franchise. I’m so done it’s not even funny.

Unlessssss you magically end up with Machado and or Harper but you’ll have to be smoking crack to think the Wilpons will be spending money. Kinda makes me feel greatful we have Jim Dolan.

Have to agree here. There are plenty of arms in free agency to make your bullpen better. Like really good arms. Miller, Britton, Robertson, Ottavino. Spend your money there. There are position players too beyong the big two names. Its just i dont get it. Last week they were entertaining offers for Noah, which i still dont get because he is still young and if you are gona deal him now then why the hell hold onto deGrom who could conceivably leave in 2 years and thats it. Who is left after that? Matz? Wheeler? Those two have been so inconsistent whether its performance or health or both. Even right now, I hear some Mets calling up saying ‘yea we can trade Thor and still have a great rotation while getting elite prospects’...LOL what? Did I miss the part where Matz and Wheeler have become great #2/3’s with multiple years of consistency on their resume’s? They have to hold onto Thor after making this trade. And of course they could still do more in free agency.

But as Darko said this a huge short term move. And I am entirely confused as to what the Mets are really trying to do. NOT TO MENTION they are trying to go toe-to-toe with the Braves and Phillies who are miles ahead of the Mets with their lineups, bullpens, and farm systems. The only argument is the starting rotation and thats IF the Mets keep Syndergaard.

Can someone explain this trade to me? Basically you're throwing your scouting under the bus. A team that needs youth is trading away a lot of youth.

At least McNeil isn't in the deal.

They need to start developing youth and getting pesky contact hitters who walk.

I can't take this GM seriously. He already looks like the "love interests boyfriend/husband who turns out to be a cheater or con man" in movies. This screams of "hey he was my client, he's a good player" nonsense.
