I thought all off-season people were underrating the pitching. The pen could possibly get even better mid-season when Montgomery, Burawa and maybe Ramirez, come up.
i think the offense will be fine. so far ellsbury is looking good and this solarte guy is playing great.

Syndergaard is the guy in the spotlight, but I think Montero is the real stud. He was dominant in his first AAA start. Hopefully they are both brought up at some point this season and given some bullpen action. Who knows, maybe one of them can start off as a closer. Wainwright started out of the bullpen in his first full season and was the closer for the Cards in their '06 World Series run

It'll come around. The fact that the rotation is looking great is a very good sign for the Yankees.

I think there will be one all star hitter in the lineup. (Ellsbury). Who else can you definitely say will have an all star season?
Jeter will be okay. I don't expect 2009 Derek.
McCann's numbers have been trending downward for a couple of seasons now. Plus there might be an AL adjustment to the pitchers.
Beltran will be solid.
Gardner will be solid.
Soriano is streaky but I kind of think he's done. He hates DHing. Could sulk all year because of that.
Teixeira is now injury prone and hasn't been the player they thought they signed, outside of 2009.

The rest of the lineup is AAA/AAAA guys.

Mets need to add a couple of Major League bats for this and next season. They should have, maybe they still can, sign Drew. Push Tejada to the bench as a backup middle infielder instead of Quintanilla.
Figure out which of Duda and Davis are going to be the guy at first base. Use the other in a trade to improve the bull pen.
Hopefully Chris Young can come back and produce. Push Eric Young to the bench as a utility guy.

Yup. Bats always take longer to come around. At this point, pitching is the most important thing in terms of looks. And the first time through the rotation was impressive, outside of CC.
And really, no all-stars? McCann will be very good, especially with the DH giving him more days off. Beltran is unreal, did you miss his stat-line the past.....decade? Gardner is a borderline all-star. Soriano isn't an all-star anymore, but he's had 2 years in a row of 30+ homers and 100+ RBI's.
2B and 3B leaves something to be desired, but Solarte looks great thus far and Roberts/Johnson/Ryan are very good cusp starters. Certainly not AAA players.
This team is deep and if the pitching this week was any indication of the season, this team will end up in first by a good margin.

I have to wait and see with this offense. Will they hit with RISP? Will they be consistent? Streaky? Strike out a lot? Make consistent contact? Move the runners along?
These are the things that have plagued this offense the last few years.
They better be good because if they aren't, I'd give the division to the Rays.

How in the world can you compare this years lineup with 5 new players and 3 new all-stars, to any team in the past.
Also, the three all-stars we signed are considered to be some of the most clutch players in the game, not to mention Beltran, who is considered on of the most clutch in history.
Sabathia is the Yankees #5. Also, I'm sick of Michael Kay thinking he's some all knowing god by always calling him Carsten Charles. FIRE KAY!!!

Jeter with a multi-hit game today, has been hitting the ball hard, so that is a good sign.

Mejia pitched 6 innings a couple days ago, 5 walks but also 8 k's. Only allowed 1 ER. He looked incredibly promising last year too.
Montero pitched 6 scoreless innings in Las Vegas on opening night. No walks, 5 k's. Wheeler struggled at Las Vegas last year when he was promoted there. Harvey struggled, but not to the same extent. It's definitely not a pitchers park.
Syndergaard pitched the night after. 6 innings, 2 ER, 6 k's, 1 walk.
DeGrom pitched yesterday. 6 innings, 0 ER, 5 k's, 1 walk.
Mets also have their top pick from a couple years ago, Matz, in Double A last year. He came back from Tommy John surgery last year and looked electric and dominant. Of course he has to continue to remain healthy, but he could be considered one of our best prospects by mid-season.
There are several more pitching prospects that deserve attention too. Michael Fulmer, a guy who was considered the under rated gem of the team before last year. He dealt with the injury bug all season. The team likened him to Wheeler during his development. Also, Gabriel Ynoa, who could definitely project to be a low-end rotation guy. He's the worst of the bunch, by far, but if he takes the correct steps this year, he'll be very good trade bait.
Finally, the bullpen has Jeurys Familia, who MLB.com ranked in the top 75 prospects in the MLB 2 years ago. He can top out at 100 MPH, and projects to one day hopefully be our closer. Losing Parnell hurt, but could be a blessing in disguise if it means that Familia gets more time later on in the season in crucial situations.
As opposed to years prior, the Mets have more hitting prospects ranked in their top 10 than they do pitching. Flores will not be a part of this team's long term plans, but a match can definitely be found with an AL team that can use him at 1b/DH.
After that we have Brandon Nimmo, who I actually think will be a very good and exciting player. He projects to come up at some point next year, and hopefully become a regular by the start of 2016. Dominic Smith is also a prospect that looks to be like a future cornerstone of the team.
Lagares is making a name for himself this year. I believe that as he continues his development, he will only get more dominant, in both the field (if its even possible) and with his hitting. I think he will be our long term centerfield answer. I think Nimmo will grab left field when he is ready. Granderson will be in RF for 3 more years, but the team will likely sign someone else for that RF position, as Granderson will not be a regular by the time his contract is over.
Smith should be our starting 1b in 2.5 years. I'd look to trade Ike/Duda for some bullpen help and sign Kendry Morales for the next 2 years at an affordable price. Smith will take the reigns later on.
I think our first pick from several years ago, Cecchini, will ultimately be a bust. I also think that our other SS prospect that is generating tons of buzz (the name escapes me) will also never achieve his ceiling. He's far too raw and far away to really be a tangible future consideration.
Dilson Herrera will also be around in 2016. A steal for Marlon Byrd last year. His defense and offense both project as pluses at the 2b position.
As for D'arnaud, i haven't given up yet, but he's not exactly impressing me. We better hope he figure it out or Plawecki really be a legit hitting threat.
I think next year we will be a WC team and 2016 is our legitimate year to contend at the playoffs. We need a stable and dominant SS in the coming years. We also need a RF as I don't think Granderson will be the guy.
What assets do we have to get these positions? Colon, Gee, Young, and maybe even Murphy. Colon, with a similar season to last year, should get us a top hitting prospect, SS or OF. Gee could potentially yield the same.
With Montero, Syndergaard, and Montero all ready to be here for the future, and available cash flow for free agents if they fail, the aforementioned pitchers are the best bet at yielding quality solutions at those 2 positions.

The worst part about Jeter is that it will take him hitting. 056 in late August until Girardi moves him down the order.
