Went to the Yankee game yesterday. Place was probably about 95% full, which was great compared to the attendance at the few other games I've been to.

Nice ceremony for Mo - a little long, but whatever. Major complaint is I get the continued impression that the current leadership of the organization cares less and less about its rich history. It started with putting the obnoxiously big monument of George up a few years ago and continues today.

The video tribute was just awful. Very little input from guys that played 8-10-15 years with Rivera and heavy amount of comments from guys like Brett Gardner, David Robertson, and Ichiro. You know, guys that have the most insight into Mo's storied career. :sarcasm:

Having Metallica there was a nice touch - one of my favorite bands of all-time - sound was beyond awful though.

....oh, and besides the nice start for Pettitte, the game sucked too and served as nothing more than a view into the dark days ahead for the Yanks.

The ****ing Mets are going to win their way out of a bottom ten spot and a protected first round draft pick. *******s can't even lose right.

Understand something about the $189 million luxury-tax threshold for next season. It isn’t really $189 million.

Each team is charged roughly $11 million for items such as insurance and pension. Thus, if the Yankees are going to get under — and I believe they are determined to do so — then they can pay their players about $178 million.

But wait. It isn’t like they could just get to $177.9 million in the offseason. They need to create spare money for promotions, potential bonuses reached and obtaining players via trade. Let’s make that a conservative $8 million.

The Yankees can reset their luxury tax rate from 50% to 17.5% if they can spend below $189M in 2014. If they stay below $189M for longer than one year, they get a rebate on the revenue sharing dollars they contribute. The spoiled Yankee fans are already crying about having to spend less money on the payroll. Boo hoo.

Let Cashman and rest of the Yankee brass use their brains for once. Other teams do it. Tampa Bay and Cleveland.

Sources confirm that Cano indeed asked #Yankees for $300M “several months ago.” Trying to beat A-Rod’s record $275M. @Buster_ESPN had first.

Cano can walk for that much. See ya later...

ARod won't be around. Jeter should retire. Pettite and Riveira gone. Kuroda might be gone. Granderson should be gone.

New team next year.

Ridiculous. Cano isn't a top 5 player in the game. Why should he get paid more than anyone else in the league? Scorched earth policy, see ya.

As a Yankees fan, I would love it if this happened. No more throwing money at free agents, build from within.

I don't think Cashman is the guy to do it though. His drafting has been mediocre and he will really be exposed if he can no longer rely on spending money. The front office is still obsessed with big names/aging stars so it will be hard to break that habit.

Is that a front office thing or an ownership thing? I'm not that familiar with how the Yankees operate under the younger Steinbrenners.

No clue. Not the Yankees I hope. Nothing over 6-7 years.

I know that no team is going to come near that number. But I really wonder what teams is really going to be in on Cano with what he's going to ask for. Are the Yankees basically bidding against themselves?

Do the Dodgers make a run at him? Maybe the Giants take a shot?

It's generally a Steinbrenner thing. Cashman didn't want to trade for Alfonso Soriano this summer and they overruled him. I'm pretty sure he didn't want Ichiro either.

Any GM is going to have a tough time rebuilding with the Steinbrenners. It would be an easier pill to swallow if our drafting was better.

That's crazy. I know he's the best 2nd baseman in the league but it ain't like that position is very deep to start with. Yikes.

Maybe the Orioles? They seem to be up and comers and were in on Texeira a few years ago. Philly has Upton and is on the down-swing. Angels have already spent a ton. The Dodgers have spent a ton as well. Who knows...

This. If Cano walks I'd just push for a full rebuild, but that won't go over with the Steinbrenners unfortunately.

Today's the last day Mo will wear pinstripes :( . Going to the game tonight, praying they pitch him.

Think the Mets brass will love it if the pick isn't protected.

Would give them another excuse to not do anything this offseason. (Not that the FA options are that amazing)
