Say what you want, but this team looks completely different (and not in a good way) without him.
I mean last season at this very same date with Marner in the lineup, the results vs Carolina were near identical, in fact the cf% without him was higher. Maybe the 11 million should go elsewhere?

March 17, 2023 (Marner in lineup)
5vs5 stats vs Carolina:
Cf% 34
xgf% 29%

March 16, 2024 (Marner not in lineup)
5vs5 stats vs Carolina:
Cf% 40
Xgf%: 29%

The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the best coached and most disciplined teams in the NHL. With Marner in our lineup they have beat us with a Zamboni driver in net

Is there any other guy in the league that would get themself injured because they didn’t shoot the puck into a wide open net? Embarrassing.

Maybe he didn’t shoot cause something popped? Marner was also the only guy to score in that game so I don’t think he deserves the ridicule.

Hopefully he comes back soon and is more recharged for a lengthy and successful playoff run. We need it.

Looks like Matthews will go another 3-4 games without being useful

If Marner misses a few more games I’d start to question 60 goals (only kidding)

70% of this board voted trade him...but that doesn't mean they dislike him as a person, it means they think the team could be more successful without him. The strawman fallancy on this board that certain Marner fan (not leaf fans) are trying to sell is that if you think the team would be more successful moving him, than you hate him as a person.
Exactly. Anyone who dares to suggest that moving Marner might make the team better gets labeled a hater. It's as if these people are so insecure in their love for Marner that they're not capable of rational discussion, therefore they just drive the thread off the rails.

Just imagine the main board if this happened before the TDL and we had 11million in cap to work with. I would have paid to read that thread

Posts like these need to be banned. Criticize the players play.

Unless you know Marner personally, this is all speculative. We don’t know that he’s a dick or douche. He could be the complete opposite of Paul Marner. I find it weird that people have this obsession with painting Marner as this character. You don’t know him, I’m sure you’ve never even met him a day in your life. Being crappy at media avails doesn’t make you a douche. Makes you bad at media avails. Some of you need to chill. Criticize the play, stop being weird and attacking a strangers personality on the basis of nothing.

He actually seems like a great guy towards younger fans. There's all kinds of videos on social media that attest to this. YMMV

He probably is. I just assume all our players are decent human beings, and at the same time, as long as they're not criminals or something, I really don't care. There are billions of people on this planet who I don't know, our players included and since I don't know them, I don't much care what they do in their free time or what they have for breakfast or whatever else. I'm a fan of the Maple Leafs so I'm interested them as hockey players, period.

Marner's a nice guy? Who cares? Marner's an asshole? Who cares? I could go on and on because when it comes to the personal lives of our players, I literally don't care. I wish them all the best, just like I do for everyone else living in this great big wide world of ours but as far as delving into details, I don't care.

Now if you were to tell me that Marner's been working on his shot, or working with a leading sports psychologist to help him play his best at the biggest high pressure moments, well then I'm all ears because that's the kind of thing that I am VERY interested in.

I mean from watching it, it looked like his ankle was injured when he fell on it after looping from behind the net (after not shooting it into the open net…)

I'm with you on that. I'm really only interested in Marner, Matthews, or whoever, the hockey player; I don't have any interest in their extracurricular activities as long as they're not some violent criminal or something.

Can you expand on being generous with his time outside the rink? Does he go to senior homes in his free time and keep them company in non publicized events? These are athletes with brands... they generally do things because they are being paid by sponsors or they are building a brand. Last I checked Marner has the most endorsement deals in the NHL, meaning he's knows more than anyone how to get paid for his time and appearances.
Yes, but it's not publicized, duh.

put marner in the line up and send him on the line up on the 6v5 unstead of nylander and the leafs won this game. I put a picture for you.

For me this picture show exactly why i will ALWAYS choose Marner over Nylander in my team whatever if nylandder is a better offensive player or not. 7 second left in a game and affraid to slide and pay the price to close the game. 100% sure if marner is in, he would sacrifice his body to make that play. The diffetence between being an winning and losing in playoff is not skill, its paying the price for your team especially in the defensive zone... Something i saw marner doing again and over again but nylander...never

Marner actually really missing to leafs

No idea whether Marner slides to block the shot but I see it done all the time by other teams. Hard to believe this still happens under Keefe who is now in season 6. Another example of why we will never win with this core.

Lots of issues in that play, Tavares is literally standing in no man’s land, tie up one of the two Canes beside the net at least

Not sure Marner is going down to block that shot either.

If Marner get destracted by the media, then Keefe should just not let him talk to the media. As a coach you need to do whats is best for your team.
Sure, but there's no evidence that he "gets distracted by the media". In fact, he's previously talked about how he ignores them. There's no reason to hide him.

Maybe I missed it, but where is your post calling posters for claiming Marner was beloved in the room, a great guy, a dutiful charity worker, etc?

Or do you only have issues with speculation that goes against your personal take?

That isn’t speculation though. Players have come out and spoke about Marner being a great team guy and how loved he is in the locker room. That is first hand accounts from former and current Maple Leafs in the NHL.

We also see the charity work he does. Same with Rielly. They are visible in the community, so it’s not speculation. Many of us have been at those events and witness that first hand.

Speculation is creating a narrative or story based on your perception. It’s baseless. Him being nice to kids and doing charity work is something he actually does

And who really cares, this is a forum about hockey, not how nice or not nice someone is. Weird that people find the need to defend his honour. Who cares what people on here say about him outside of the hockey rink.

Anyhow, let’s hope he heals up and is ready to go come playoffs
